How to avoid the po po

We have all done atleast once if never and some times when you're in a rush you can't aviod it.

Is there any device or way or telling which are unmarked cars/bikes?

Other than when the blue lights start to come on...

Clean, recent registration, lack of stickers/embellishments, epaulettes on shirts, well driven (that should make you suspicious for a start).

Plain colours normally straight silver, black, dark blue and occasionally white.

Blacked out window on rear is massive giveaway, though alot of newer cars are doing this now. But the rear screen is normally REALLY black to acomodate the flashing lights/police lighting when stopping.

Normally dirving on inside lane of the motorway believe it or not... like a spider waiting for prey.

Surely something could detect broadcasts over police radio bands? It'd be prone to false positives and only work when the cops are broadcasting though - i guess that's why such devices aren't commonly available...

Probably makes eyes the best detectors

As for the types of cars to look out for, I saw an old green 5 series bmw about a month ago on the A40 with two cops in yellow jackets and a lot of dashboard equipment. I was also tailed on my way to watford by a silver hyundai 4x4 after an exuberant start at the lights in my car, in the end i didn't get pulled, but it was definitely cops - I got a good look as they went past a couple of miles further down the road. A mate told me they're now using some of the seized vehicles instead of selling them on so they blend in a little more, but i can't confirm that myself.

A vehicle that is catching up with you, you pull across a lane to let them pass but it slows down and matches your lane.

If they are catching up with me, they are going pretty damned quick so why suddenly back off?

Attack of concience? Not at three figure speeds I think.

Yeah, keep an eye out for extra aerials on the roofs, ie there are a few Focuses about here with small areas just before the tailgate - but they're almost horizontal, but a dead giveaway of polizei.
