Cars... buying and selling!

So I bought a car about 6-8 months ago and am now fed up of it, I thought the move to diesel would be good but the price difference means I save very little in overall costs. Plus I'm sick of driving a car that sounds like a tank - if only I could get my old petrol car back!!

It's a Focus estate 2004 TDdI. If I took it back to a dealership in part ex would I be looked down upon with suspicion for having had the car for such a short time? I'm thinking if I part ex it in for a petrol estate of some kind and similar age I'd be much happier... but I wouldn't want to lose money on it just because I've only had it a short while...

Well the car is worth about £500 less than I bought it for as per Parkers - and that's at trade in price. Looking round at the £4 -£4.5k mark I do see some much nicer cars slightly older but with lower mileage on them.
I guess I'd need to stump up a resonable amount to make it worth the dealer doing the deal? Say £500-£1k?

There's no hard 'n fast rules for haggling. It should NEVER be about whether or not the trader is willing to do the deal it should be whether you're agreeable to the deal on the table - Don't give the Car Salesman the upper hand when it comes to negotiating, have a price that you're willing to pay in mind and don't waver from that price.

If you're adamant that you want a change find the right car at a price that you think is feasible and start negotiating from there.
