How do i remove the fly wheel nut on my mtx 125? i have tried putting the bike in gear but because i am working on the bike with it on it's side stand it moves. Could i lock the back wheel by putting somethin though the wheel and against the swing arm? I have a spare rear wheel which is knackered so i can put this on and not worry about damageing the spokes etc etc or is there an other way to do it which i have over looked?

Hi

Air or electric impact driver will do it very quickly. There are other bodges (eg, take of the clutch cover and use a 2p piece to wedge the primary drive gears together), but the impact drivers are the fastest and safest ways to do it.

All the best

Keith

I don't own a impact driver or have access to one so am gonna sumthing else.

Would'nt a 2p damage the drive gears ???? and how would you insert that if i went down that road ??

eh!!! if you take the clutch cover off you will see the gear from the crank. where this meshes with the clutch housing you shove it in there to 'jam' the motor. it wont harm it, hence 2p piece because it is a softer metal.

alternatively i normally use a piston stop, its a plastic gadget that replaces the spark plug to hold the piston.

your next problem may be removing the part from the crank. you may need an extractor tool

Thumbs Up

Yeah i have a flywheel extractor, well it's a puller with three legs and i had to grind the lips on the legs to fit the hole's in the fly wheel, nothing to extreme just a bit of a reprofile thats all.

You can jam a rag into the primary drive gears rather than a 2p to stop it turning.

I got this nugget of information from a Yamaha workshop manual my mate bought for his RD500.
