Heavy Rain

What a joy to be able to ride and not worry about the lack of grip, like the last few days where the roads have just been damp.... How a few hours of rain can make such a diffrence to the roads. Even this morning when it was chucking it down the roads were great.
And tonite on the way home now they have dried out..... Just like summer again.

I really hate it when you know the road is damp so full grip won't be there, but it looks good so you are tempted to give it full whack. Also, when it has been raining over night but in the morning the roads are fairly dry except for the patches under trees is annoying as these patches are often quite slippery.

I've felt the bike slipping as I've been leaning slightly, it's great, to feel how far it's going then you can adjust it slightly to stay on top of it(no pun intended) and not just have it flop straight over, gives so much feedback and confidence. Winter riding FTW.

The roads round here were properly dry for the first time in ages. Managed to completely remove the white, road salt chicken strips that had appeared over the last few weeks They'll be back soon enough though

I've been taking all this crap weather as an opportunity to improve all sorts of aspects in my riding, it makes it really easy to concentrate on smooth and fast gear changes etc.
Most of my riding experience over the past two years has been in pretty crap weather or low visibility, and after the unbearable trip to reading for the 'Minimoto & Karting' event I think I've toughened up again and I'm starting to enjoy the challenge.

It's a real treat when you're able to effectively brake from high speeds in a very good distance when the roads are drenched
I feel like I'm learning the limits, as everytime I overstep them the bike reacts in a scary way
I think I've fish tailed the bike under acceleration or high rev gear changes atleast 5 times in the past two weeks.
(That includes testing the possibility of a wheelie on cold tyres Ask Virus about that one)

Today though I decided that I really wanted to make a measure of my wet riding skill and confidence, it has really been pissing it down around here recently... The roads cleared up to a generally damp state, and then there was the occasional downpour.
I had a nice hoon from Malvern> Worcester> Upton> Pershore> Evesham> Fladbury> Worcester and by hoon I mean that my riding was actually about as fast as it would be in the dry, if not faster becuase I was pushing it a tad.

I was going some and averaging 90mph on most of the corners, some damp, soem dry, some wet... quite often cranked over.
Going into Evesham I cuaght up with a rider on what I think whas a CB500, and he was going some (I was'nt impressed by a long overtake on a very blind left hand corner but meh) When I overtook him around the next one and then cranked it right over doing 100mph up the next left gradient I think even amazed him abit.

Obviously when I got to fladbury I had to give my favourite hump back bridge a visit... It was dry around here and I slightly crested it entering fladbury at a steadiesh pace, I could'nt even be bothered to do a scout to check the landing was clear as I felt I had allready been pushing my luck so I may as well carry on and see if it did'nt get me killed

I turned around at the usual junction to give myself a nice run-up, steadily gave it the beans but as I approaced it realised I had'nt judged it so back off abit and then thought "fuck it!", Opened up the throttle and raised off my seat a bit to check the approach.

Last time I crested it I had the front wheel allot higher than the rear a good few feet off the ground but this time it felt liek heaven, I was a bit unbalanced duie to my hesitation but the biek felt very level in its flight path and I know I hav'nt got it that high or far before.
My landing however was'nt the smoothest and there was quite a touch of movement in the steering. I though "Oops that was allmost a tankslapper there " and carried on in my merry way.

Looking back on this post I guess it sort of contradicts the point of the OP but fuck it I wanna tell a story

Was watching the line appearing from my tyres down the road today and they certainly clear a fair bit of water.

After my fun in the damp feeling like i was ice skating the full wet conditions were great !

One slight issue was after cleaning my chain and adjusting it yesterday it started p!ssing it down as was cleaning up and forgot to clean the oil residue of the rear brake

Made for a fun first mile having no back brake in the rain
