The Federal Reserve is refusing to identify the recipients of almost $2 trillion of emergency loans from American taxpayers or the troubled assets the central bank is accepting as collateral.

Fed Chairman Ben S. Bernanke and Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson said in September they would comply with congressional demands for transparency in a $700 billion bailout of the banking system. Two months later, as the Fed lends far more than that in separate rescue programs that didn't require approval by Congress, Americans have no idea where their money is going or what securities the banks are pledging in return.

funny how they had to go through congress for a 750 billion package and congress were told if they didt pass it martial law would be declared yet they just take 2 trillion from the tax payer and dont even say where its gone..criminal?

Original Bloomberg article here. States that most of these loans have been made under schemes other than the $700bn bailout bill and those schemes have been in place for many months.

So not entirely to do with the bailout, but still a lot of money to be pumping in and not telling anyone about, when they should be.

Interesting that one of the billionaire partners of a PE firm, and other senior guys at investment banks/finance companies also want transparency, to restore the market confidence.
