Why 2006 as the oldest? Purely for looks?

its new... if i wanted to spend £5000 on any bike it would be without a doubt a 1998-2001 r1 (the original)

but im spending £5000 for a newish bike that will perform, and look good, im not planning on keeping it standard, i want to keep the bike for at least 3 years.

iv patrially decided...

either a 749s
or
2006 onwards R6

the insurance and price is about the same.

iv had loads of plans for an r6 moding wise
but a 749, i can only think of performance mods, and a few minor looks mods.

considering performance and looks...
R6 or 749s?

I'd say an R6 then. But then I again I'm not a fan of Ducatis (looks and noisewise)

Can't say much for performance, but the R6 definately looks better and IL4's sound better anyways Wink

dont get me wrong, i adore the r6 looks... and people like the 2-stroke like power delivery.

but iv come from a vfr400 with torque throughout the rev range.

i love the sound of both, the looks of both

but the r6 iv got plans for, the 749 only minor plans.

i can imagine getting one all the time for the volume level of zorsts of s duc too... but they look soooooooooooooo nice and sound sooooooooooooooooo nice...

i think i might have to come down to the flip of a coin in the end to decide

out of the bikes listed id say k7 gsxr600.

if you want a new(ist) r6 you might as well buy an 08 (which you will struggle to find for 5g) at least it has some mid-range

as for the duke vs a 6, it all comes down to what you prefer i guess, go for a S or R model tho, i believe you could get a S model for that price quite easy

Why don't you have a test ride?

And I went from a Hornet 6 to a NC30 ( Wink ) and although I do love the torque I miss the power delivery and noise of the Hornet.

What would you want? Easier to ride day to day or pure fun?

R6 either way for me, but I'd rather have a Hornet Wink

With that sort of budget I'd be leaning towards an SP2 or new shape RSV, granted I'd guess now is a really good time to be looking to buy a 749 too.

i dont think any bike shops will let me test ride any bikes, im 19 and my restriction period is up on 1st of feb, but i want a bike before then.

iv read countless reviews on the r6 and all say youve gota rev the nakers off it to get anywhere, an that the suspension is not set for road use at all, its too hard and it all goes a bit pear shape if you find a bump in a corner.
but i suppose this all can only add character to the bike.

with the duc, iv read that its handling is amazing in all conditions, front can be a bit sloppy under "HEAVY" breaking but heavier oil will fix that.
then theres the un believable amounts of torque, and the S model has a nice 116bhp to play with, but it still lacks on a bit of top end, it tops out at 150, i know that a good speed but id like a bit more (iv got a mate on an 06 model kwak to contend with). iv also read that the ducati is a bit of an under achiever on paper, but is ment to be god like on the road.

im in a rite good pickle here, also id like to know what bike i want before the nec show so i can but a jacket Wink

You big gay! get a black jacket! Smile

As for the bike, I like the duke, but if i were you I'd consider a gsxr750 Very Happy

I'd buy an 04-05 R6 for £3.5k and save the rest. Nice blend of old headbanger R6 thrashability without the weak gearbox and CBR-F road manners/useability. Nicely put together too.

go with whatever takes your fancy.
the R6 doesnt lack midrange as much as the mags and papers make it look that way. all modern 600's are hard to separate so if you like the look of the R6 then go for it.
i have a 2005 and 2006 636 and all i can say is that extra 37cc makes the mid range more road appealing and easier to get on with.
although i do like the R6 that was my choice.
