So as some c*** nicked my £99 Caberg I had to buy a cheaper helmet due to low funds. The Caberg had a fog free visor, which was excellent it just didn't fog up at all regardless of the weather.

My new helmet doesn't have this feature at its been really bugging me, its really cold out and I really don't want to have my visor partially open to avoid fogging. Exhaling deeply will just make the whole thing go white atm.

I would like to buy a replacement fog free visor and put that in my new Takachi helm, low on funds so if they are pricey might not be able to.

Other option would be one of those sprays, my mate has some for his car but can't use that on plastic. Are there any really good anti-fog sprays for bike helmets?

So looking for recommendations on:

I got some Halfords anti-fog/water repellant spray, you use it to clean inside and out of your helmet and its supposed to help keep the rain off and prevent fog, it does seem to help especially as I tend to be too slow on my ped for it to get rid of the fog properly using the vents, but big deep breaths are still off the menu Very Happy and you'll still have to crack your helmet open at lights etc.

I've been told pinlock inserts are excellent and with them in there's no fog ever, but have no real evidence of this!

So for a cheapish solution the anti fog spray tends to keep me secure in my bubble even at slowish speeds with no risk of fog!

The best and most highly recommended solution to fogging is a Pinlock insert. I know it's not what you're looking for but it really does work superbly, and one is transferrable across all your visors!
Note - if you want it installed in a visor that you currently have, you will need to drill it for the mounts (a template is provided so that you do it right), or get a shop to do it for you!

I'm with Syx on this one, I've tried the sticky fog city inserts and all manner of sprays etc but nothing works like the pinlock. I've gone the drilling myself and got it done well enough for it to work.

The best anti-fog product by far.

Cheers

I just bought a Foggy Respro mask and can't be happier with it. It cost me £12 off eBay and works a treat. I can breathe as deep as I want and it keeps my lower half of the face warm on the cold mornings.

There was a post like this not so long ago, Pinlocks were mentioned on there as well.

What are pinlocks?

The pinlock is the top of the range visor insert. It prevents the visor from misting up from your breath in cold/damp weather.

https://www.saskma.com/images/stories/new/Pinlock%20Visor_files/image005.jpg

They come in various colours, some even react to light just like reactive lenses in glasses.

Well worth the money, expecially at this time of year. pricy to begin with, but you will save money in the long run, sprays are crap and do nothing. Other sticky inserts will fall off at some point.

with pinlock its like spending twice the money, but getting 10X the performance.

Thank you good sir Thumbs Up

So how do they work, to me (from that picture) it looks like a plastic insert that is drilled into place?

Its more of a gel liner than plastic.

I think it works through witch craft or something like that and is superb. I have a dark tint one for the summer months and now just the clear inner as I ride to work in the dark and come home in the dark.

Word of warning though, if you wear spectacles, these will fog even if your visor doesn't. Laughing

+1 Thumbs Up

Pinlock FTW.

Makes me wonder how I used to get on without one. I started using my clear visor again a few weeks ago (Which didn't have a pinlock) and I was like WTF. I need to get a tinted one for my clear visor I think.

[/off to eBay]

I'm looking on ebay, but do I have to get one for my specific helmet or brand?

All the listings seems to have a make in the title...

P.S. Apologies to the OP for highjacking

I bought the self fitting kit from here for my AGV Stealth...

https://www.racevisors.co.uk/category/accessories-pinlock-agv

Seems to cover some models but not all so you may be in luck.

Can't live without it now, like various comments above. Thumbs Up

We sell Takachi that come with a free antifog insert.
Fog spray is ok, altho when I first used it I would fog in certain parts.
Just got annoying.
Inserts are around £19,99 but if you can get a pinlock its worth every penny.

One problem with the tinted pilocks is that, on my Shoei, the gap at the top of the insert was enough to let the sun shine through, which was bloody annoying.

Also, the inserts don't like being fitted and removed, they eventually crack, much better to have a light and dark visor, both with clear inserts.

Cheers

Sounds like a better idea, considering.

I did that to begin with, but so often I needed both that I would have to carry a whole visor around all day "on my person". It was easier to carry just the pinlock insert under pillion seat. Rolling Eyes

I also follow the two visor route. One dark and one clear, both with their own Pinlock. However when I ordered the dark visor from one of those off-shore retailers they sent a free Motrax visor bag like this one:

https://www.motorcycleworldl-spa.co.uk/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=461

I either shove it in my rucksack when commuting or clip it round my waist when sans-luggage.

And yes, Pinlock is excellent. Just treat the insert with maximum care to prevent scratches and they work brilliantly. Mine have been going strong used on a daily basis for over two years.

So is Pinlock kind of like a Fogcity insert, but drilled in to place? (in a round about way)
