I know how little these are taken notice of officially, and I couldn't find one in the search thing but it's something that does matter to all of us, maybe sign it incase it helps? Not like there's anything to lose really.......

But do all/any air-ambulance charities wish to have government(tax payer funding)?
I have heard nothing to this effect.

Do you have any info, st3v3, relating to the basis of this petition?

Maybe some, or all, like the independence of running their operations
without government interference. As charities they are of course
eligible for tax breaks.

The RNLI does a magnificent job as a charitable concern with, AFAIK,
no direct tax payer funding.

An example here is the Yorkshire Air Ambulance, when Richard Hammond crashed at Elvington Airfield, the service received a mass of donations that would otherwise not have been made. The cost they pay is quite lot compared to the donations they get yet they do manage it, and I'm sure that if funding wasn't a issue if it was supported as per Police/Fire service then they wouldn't be as concerned over how they're going to afford to operate.

There was a member on here had a serious accident or died where an Air Ambulance was involved and fund raising took place, I can't see why they would deny the chance to be rid of the financial burden to help them get on with what they do best. Karma

Basis is, they're a service that should qualify without a doubt for governmental funding yet don't receive it. What makes them different from road using hospital based ambulances in terms of service provided? I'd be more comfortable knowing my taxes went toward this service where you can clearly see it's use and effectiveness than e.g, teachers considering how kids are these days.

I think, and feel free to correct me anyone, but if the government fund it, they get a say.

And most likely that will be costs too much so they get axed.......

Believe its 7 Million a year to keep the Yorks air ambulance in the air, so that one hell of a effort to raise that sort of cash.

Sure the Gov should foot some of the funding, but lets keep them away from the actual running of them.

No, because as said they will then have a say in what they do.

I always give to the air ambulance as I have had to use two of them and I know the money stays in this country where it is needed.

Maybe the air ambulance charge the NHS when they get called out? Like charging them for a service used? And the money that gets donated is used for the admin of it all?

Not sure how it works, just guessing.

As previously stated, several Air Ambulance charities prefer not to be government run. This is for several reasons, the main reason I believe is that they fear government meddling (read "costcutting") would reduce services and risk lives.

I know this is (or at least was a few years ago) the opinion of Kent Air Ambulance
