Hi all

Got a bit of a boggle with my trusty CG. I found a bolt where I park the bike on Friday - wondered whether it had come off the bike at first, but further inspection has revealled that it, and another bolt just like it, has rattled out from under the engine.

It seems that in a previous spill, the rhs footpeg had taken a knock and cracked both footpeg mounts on the underside of the crankcase. The side of the threads had since rattled out, along with the bolts.

So now my footpeg assembly (the left and right hand sides are connected on a bar that runs under the engine) is only fixed by the two bolts on the left hand side. The rhs isn't loose, but you can move it up and down a few millimetres.

I've got the MOT due soon, is this likely to result in a failure?

There aren't any places where I can re-bolt the rhs footpeg, short of possibly connecting it to the exhaust pipe using a DIY bracket. Short of a new engine block (£150 or so), is this something I should seek to fix before the test?

Thanks.

If the footpeg can move then odds-on it's gonna fail the MOT. Tighten the bolts you have left to stop it moving.

or if possible,
spend a couple of quid going to a engineering workshop, ask them to tack the mounts back on, so will be sturdy enough for mot, or for a bit more ask em to weld the mounts back on properly?

Agreed but what kind of dildo decided to bolt the foot peg to the cases?

Not necessarily - I stripped the self locking nut attaching both my footpegs to the bike last year trying to remove it ( Rolling Eyes I know...), so the pegs move around a bit (prob talking a good cm of play up and down). The nut itself doesn't get looser or tighter, so the pegs aren't going anywhere, but they still move. Fixing it will require me to take a hack-saw to the connecting rod, so I didn't bother for the MOT (will do it when it gets too cold). The guy noticed the movement, but tried to remove the nut himself and couldn't so just stuck it down as an advisory. Prob helped that I was in the station talking him through the problem too, so things may be different with you...

ive never had any MOT tester check my footpegs integrity. leave it and see what happens, then sort it out there and then if it fails.

Unsecured foot pegs will be picked up on and if not a fail an advisory for sure. For the sake of a nut and bolt just replace or tighten them up prior to going.

Honda. Laughing

In this case Id say JB weld is your friend, it will get it through an MOT and you can sort out getting a new thread put in at some other point.

Cheers
