Hi there, sorry my first post is asking for help but i plan on staying around and posting on here, looks a nice place Smile.

Ok my throttle is sticking on me bike now it usualy does it when its warm and i cant figure out what it is. last time it stuck i was at home and managed to have a look at the side of the carb where the throttle cable is and and it was in the fully closed position so i can only imagine its somewhere in the Throttle valve shaft thingy (im sorry i really know nothing about bikes), i noticed when i was looking to see if it was stuck it had a scratch on it maybe its sticking i dont know.

My question maybe a bit stupid but please remember im a learner biker and know nothing about bikes just yet, plain and simple, can i squirt some WD40 into the the bit that the sleeve of the throttle valve goes into to help that move.

I'm really sorry for the lack of technical names for things Very Happy, i have no idea what they are but i can point them out to u Very Happy

Hi the cable should go in to the top of the carb, you may be looking at the choke.

As for the throttle sticking, could be a dead cable, possibly frayed and about to snap! Its worth getting it replaced either by buying a Haynes manual and doing it yourself (if you are mechanically minded..) or by getting a shop to do it. Ask around though, you may find a fellow biker who would be willing to fix it for you in exchange for a few beers.

Whereabouts are you?

Paul

Im near Rochdale.

The twistgrip closes and i cant feel it catching on anythin when i twist the throttle. When i pulled the throttle valve out to have a look it had a scratch on it and when i look in the haynes it says it should be smooth, im wonderin if a bit of dirt or somet has gotten into that and thats why i was wonderin if i can spray wd40 or somet else into it tho i dont know if thats gonna knacker my engine even more.

Can undo the plastic throttle mount/holder on the handle bar, remove the cable from the catch and just pump some lube down there until it starts comming out of the other end at the carbs (be ready with paper towl etc, my zxr one would stick in posistion, I did this one day when I was rejetting so thoughth why not, was sweet as a nut after. Still is now.

Infact most haynes describe how to do this in detail.

it has some kind of box that splits the cable into two, one goes to the butterfly thing and the other into the top of the carb into the throttle valve

'Butterfly thing' is the accelerator pump, its crap and un-necessary. disconnect the cable and be done with it.

Cheers

Squirts neat petrol down the bore.

Good on bigger singles to give it a bit more top end, un noticable on a CG.

I say that, the one time I noticed it was when I had the carb off to inspect it, and proceeded to hit the plunger whilst looking down the venturi.

Cheers
