brake issues

I'm having minor front brake issues on my hyosung gt250r. First symptom is a squeak at low / pushing speed. Second is occasionally, the brake light remains on until 10 or so minutes into the journey.

I took it in to a local garage but by the time i got there the brake light was functioning correctly. They said there was ample clearance and that the squeaking was just dirt. I don't particularly hold with this as it happens even without me having to brake.

Treat me as a complete noob to this kind of stuff, what /how do you recommend i check.

There should be a small switch attached to the brake lever with a pin, usually in front of the pivot bolt, that pops out when you use the brakes. Spray it with WD40.
