I've considered using one of those 500ml aluminium sports water bottles (pound shop, camping shop etc).

Haven't actually tried it yet though.

In the red bit near the front, I've got a flat 5l jerry can (one on the other side too). Got this for about 10 from a marine supply place.

I can fit a 20l jerry can into each of the panniers too.

Indeed; that was my dinner, it was quarter to ten and I was nearly at John'o'Groats, so nowhere else to replace it. I did manage to salvage some of the cheese and one slice of tomato at least! I ended up supping on 'butter drops' which I'd got as 'holiday treats' for people at work; a truly Scottish delicacy involving sugar, butter and maybe some glucose syrup.

I always employ a thirty second rule (as opposed to five) when it comes to dropping food, you'll never go hungry.

I thought about this the other day, when I got into the car and was greeted by a waft of dogshit that I had failed to notice on the path.

Surely carring extra fuel in a backpack or something in a fanta bottle or similar, would be quite horrific if you fell off and spark ignited it?

Someone once recommended a Sigg or MSR fuel bottle which I thought was a cracking idea, but according to Needle Sports only the MSR are available now.
