So 2 weeks ago I was hit by a lady in a car performing a U-turn at the end of a dual carriage way (going to the other side), she was positioned as if she was merging into the queue of traffic in the left lane, her wheels were turned in, everything. Out of the blue she must have decided that she didn't want to wait and simply did a U-turn just at the point I was passing her; I saw the indicator come after she'd started turning and I think I managed to actually stop but she'd not seen me at all (not even after following her for 1/2 a mile), so she just carried on ploughing into me.

The bike sorta was pushed and then fell onto it's side. After the police moved it for me a quick inspection shows damage to BOTH sides of the bike, essentially everything poking out of the left or right was bent or broken (she'd also managed to snap off BOTH foot pegs which I'm not sure how).

Anyway, garage estimated damage at £2150 and I only valued the bike at £1900; so they've decided to write it off.

They rung me yesterday and offered me £1770 for the bike (I'd only just spent £180 on new tyres...), or £1350 and keep the scrap. I told em where to stick it (even though it sounded alright); hopefully they'll get back to me with a slightly higher offer.

At first I really wanted to keep the bike and use the money to repair it myself but now I'm not so sure.

I've always wanted a GSXR600-K4, but after spending a year on my CBR I've sorta fallen in love with it; It was 10 years old, but it'd only done 13,000 when I got it (I'd taken it to 22,000 in the last year); so it was in pretty good shape.

I'm starting to think now just get rid - it's got a damaged history now so I'll never be able to sell it; It's got work to be done; It needs MOT doing, TAX ran out, needs new chain + sproket, needs a service, oil change, filter change, plug change...

One part of me really wants to keep it out, but the sensible part of me says get rid and start fresh.

With whatever they offer me I'll still have to find some cash somewhere but at least it'll be going on something newer and with a clean history.

It just really makes me angry that some stupid person can cause so much hastle for me. If only she'd indicated earlier or i'd been 10 seconds earlier/later this would've never happened. Life huh. Can't beat it.

I'm in (sort of) the same position. I was knocked off in August at a junction - left side was bashed by the car, right side by the road. The rear brake lever dug into the frame and wrote it off. His insurance company will apparntly get back to me in January Rolling Eyes
