Rear wheel was not feeling good at all, took it off to find that my l/h side bearings had gone. The bearing casing has totally demolished and was not found Confused the ball bearings themselfs were scattered everywhere in pieces !! I've also noticed that from this destruction, my rear spacer that sits on top of the spindle is a bit scratched and grooved (presuming from the broken ball bearings) its not terribly bad, but will its be ok to re-use ??

Ive ordered a set of bearings and seals, and i also need a new back tyre, chain and sprockets so money is tight, especially being right on top of xmas. Thanks

The spindle doesn't really 'do' much; if they are just small dents, smoothing them down may be ok.
You do not want play between the spindle and the inner race of the bearing; this would lead to knackered more bearings.
If you can get this bit so that it holds firm, yet still allows the spindle to slide through freely, you should be fine.

Oops, my bad.

In that case, providing it's not the internal bit, it should be fine unless it's really bad.

Smooth down and bits sticking up that may come into contact with other bits; so they don't damage oil seals etc. Obviously there should be a flat surface to mate with other 'in line' parts, but not a big problem if there's a dent or two in this.
However, if it's really bad it should be pretty cheap to replace.
