So are you looking at them for tracking children, old people, vehicles, or pets?
Yes you can completely trust where it says it is, GPS doesn't lie. But if you're looking at the trackers for bike security then I don't think they'd be very good at that.
To work they need to have GPS signal and phone signal, so you'd need to work out where to mount it on the bike to give it the best chance of getting a GPS signal. If buying a GPS tracker then I reckon the one to get are the ones that's built into the alarm, someone nicks your bike, the alarm makes lots of noise and it sends you text messages saying where it is and where it's going (direction and speed).
It's a CBR125 you're on isn't it? I'd go for physical security to stop the bike being taken in the first place, rather than tracking devices to give you a better chance at getting it back once it's been taken. |

Phones can be tracked off the cell network via a technique called triangulation. At a very basic level, imagine being in a triangle with a signal mast at each corner - then imagine your phone as a dot somewhere in the triangle, you could measure the response time from each mast which would give you a pretty accurate location of where said dot is located.
The police do have access to this and can run traces but its unlikely they would do this for a stolen bike although I guess not impossible, its not really costly to do anymore either.
Trackers are pretty cool but you've got to hide the tracker so the thief doesn't find it quickly, if it runs off the bikes power and the thief suspects the possibility just removing the bikes battery will stop the ability for it to continue sending location updates etc.
Its a nice have but as others have said, physical and preventative security measures are better, especially with a CBR125R. You're unlikely to attrack high value thiefs who know what they're doing, instead teenagers/thugs are more likely to go for it and as such enough chains/alarms/getting spotted are factors that are likely to deter a thief. ____________________ Current Bikes: Honda CBR 600RR - '07, Suzuki GSX1250 FA ST '11
