What's gonna be the major differences?
I've decided I'm gonna keep the Gixxer and do it up. Zorst, K&N Dynojet etc.
Was looking at buying a race fairing and getting it painted. My lights are boring so was gonna do them, either steal/buy some from a different bike or make some up (like GG).

Wanting twin port cans 2, but I need 2 so they can't be too expensive Very Happy

You can expect to do a heck of a lot of bodging to get that onto your bike. I dunno how Suzuki chassis are made up, but I had to replace the clock/headlight bracket in order to fit a more modern front fairing on my Blade, and then I had to modify the mirror stay etc...all in all it was worth it, and I'm sure that your mod will probably be worth it in the end, but do some homework first - take a look at exploded diagrams/fiches and see how the fairings are fitted onto each bike.

You also need to bear in mind the angle of the headlight etc, so that it's actually legal for the road (yeah, ok, so you'll have race cans etc).

Good luck with it anyway...looking forward to the results Smile

Yeah cheers Tin. Cuz I'll be keeping my bike on the road with the current fairings I can bodge all I like and not worry about not having a bike Very Happy
I'll do some research before though.
Anyone know if I can get a 2-tone spray job on my bike? Just wondering a rough cost.
And Zak yes, but it'll be quicker than yours Razz

Do you mean a gradient effect? or Flip-flop? Flip-flop can be lurvly, but at about £800 per litre, no thanks.

Flip-Flop I reckon. Been quoted £25-300 for 2-tone but I dunno if that's gradient

sound like a gradient that mate - flip-flop paint costs about that much for a litre of the cheapest horrible stuff but I did find some chrome paint somewhere online that was about £50 a litre - that'd look nice - shiny and all!!!

Sorry that was me - you will need no more than one litre but you'll also need a litre of primer and a litre of COB (laquer) and 1/2 litre of hardner/activator. Then a compressor and spraygun. The chrome doesn' t need COB - just the activator in the topcoat.

You'd be best just taking it to an accident repair place - I've come to the conclusion that unless you are doing the smallest repair, it's worth taking it to a pro - they'll do a much better job than you ever could. Then again no one can tell when I've done a repair and I reckon it's crap so maybe I'm just a perfectionist?

When I last enquired (which was about a year ago I guess), Dream Machine would charge an average of about £500 for a standard race-rep paintjob, but it's usually about £200 to the trade, so if you get friendly with the dealer who sold you the bike...

Another thing to bear in mind is that most proper paintshops *need* your bike, and not just your fairings, and this can be for anything up to about 5 weeks...but same day ride-in/ride-out services are availalbe, but cost an absolute mint (some bloke from PB/Superbike got his Blade painted for £1200 Shocked).

To be fair, unless you already have a compressor, it's not really worth doing it yourself...the alternative methods (i.e. cans) really aren't suitable for a decent paintjob and would cost loads more that you'd think.

In the new issue of Performance Bikes someone has just bought an 89' gsx-r750l as part of a challenge to get the best track tool for £750. The fairing is missing, so you can bet in a later issue that they'll be bodging a newer one on.
