PostPosted: 23:35 - 26 Nov 2008    Post subject: Exclusive sportsbikes [HELP!] Reply with quote

I appeal to you, the knowledgeable flock of BCFers, to help me fill a gap. I'm writing a short piece on some exclusive sportsbikes and I'm a bit short on numbers. Currently I have the following but would like a couple more:

Ducati Desmosedici RR
Bimota V-Due
MV Augusta F4 1078 RR 312
Honda NR750

It's got to be exclusive (i.e. rare and, probably, expensive) and it must have something interesting to distinguish it from the normal run-of-the-mill sports bike*.

Cheers!

*No, the '98 R1 jokes are still not funny.

I considered it, but thought it a bit too mainstream (or not different enough)...

I remember Bike did a feature (probably about a year ago) where they listed the rare bikes... probably about the same time the Desmosedici came out. They had the 750 honda with the turbo on and some others which I can not remember..

Honda CBX1000
Any of the Bimota Tesi/Vyrus 984/985 family
Yamaha R7

If your going to put down an MV F4, put down one of the specials such as the Senna, Tamburini or F4CC.

And hey, does my Futura count? Granted all the others either didn't sell or just caught on fire when they did but eh, minor details! Wink

Good call! Thumbs Up

I was trying to avoid repeating manufacturers (already got a Bimota). Again, I considered the R7 already but concluded it wasn't that different from an R6/R1 - except in numbers.

'Cos the F4 1078 RR 312 is the 190bhp 194mph monster (and, as above, I don't want to repeat manufacturers).

Thanks so far - keep 'em coming! Very Happy

Bimota SB8K Santamonica - i've NEVER seen one in the UK or on british roads... I saw an SB8R at six hills a few years ago and i thought THAT was special. Something about pre DB5/7 bimotas that seem to hit the spot with me in terms of exotic exclusivity.

The F4CC is the limited run version of the 1078, whilst the Senna is based around the older engine but is probably the most iconic of the F4 specials, both rarer and more exclusive than the stock 1078.

And if you don't want to put in a second Bimota, stick in the Vyrus Smile

The F4 CC is a £75,000 200HP 196mph monster: only 100 built.

A few spring to mind...

BMW HP2 Sport,
Moto Guzzi MGS-01 Corsa/Serie,
KTM RC8 (not terribly exclusive),

The Norton F1 is another option that springs to mind, although the road variant always struck me as a bit wet, it's pretty rare!

For Kawasaki, I guess the H1 Mach III or H2 Mach IV would fit the bill?

The only other genuinely special bikes I can think of are either oddballs that are not exactly proper sports bikes like the Yamaha GTS1000 or just prehistoric classics. It'll be interesting to see what the final list ends up like though Thumbs Up

Seconded.

What about bikes like the Benelli Tornado? Not a great bike but rare to see one out and about.

I do like the Benelli Tornado but they are relatively popular. I wouldn't suggest it here.

The MV F4 1078 312RR is faster than 194 MPH. The older (2007) F4 1000 312R was the 194 MPH machine. Or 193.97 MPH as recorded if I remember correctly. I would agree that the 100CC is a beautiful machine and was retailing (for those who could afford it) for 100,000 Euros a piece. I think Red Dog had one at one point, might still have it.

I would disagree with that, a limited run of 500 especially for WSB homologation is pretty exclusive I'd have said. Most (sports)bikers will be able to tell the difference between an R1, R6 and R7 at 10 paces, and even more will be able to tell you that it is pretty special.

How about the Triumph Daytona Super III? Only 150 made, Cosworth engine, 6 pot calipers plus smatterings of carbon fibre...in 1994.

[edit]And it's pretty.... Pretty bloody ugly.

You've missed out the only one that I would remotely consider buying...

The Mondial Piega.

Norton F1? Not amazing perfomrance by today's standard, but then doubt the NR is that great and the V-Due was always considered to be dodgy.
[edit]Pah, beated to it[/edit]

Ok, there was definitely 'not many mande', but I always thought the Norton Nemisis sounded good.

I've seen plenty of R7s around; would class it like the RC30 etc. Nice bike, but nothing particularly special apart from the fact they were very expensive for what you get.
And very much doubt the Y2K would be considered a 'sports' bike.
