After 396 days of ownership...

I finally dropped my bike. Knew it would happen eventually,

Was just going on to the motorway on the M42, came off the slip road and joined the motorway. Got into lane 2, and then it all started slowing down, my Dad (who was following) has moved into lane 3, I was doing a lifesaver to see if there was room (just as he was pulling across) I did another lifesaver to check again as I only got a brief look.

At which point I turned back to look forward and hit the back of the car, I am not sure if I managed to get on the brakes or not. I hit the car, the bike went under me and on its right, I was on top of the bike, chin fit on the floor (thank god for chin guards), I slid on the road, sprawling over lanes 2 & 3. The car in front beeped his horn but never stopped, my bike I think got caught under the bumper and dragged a bit. All of this bit happened in probably under 2 seconds.

Bike was alright, scratched (don't think dented tank), mangled crash bung, still unsure if the frame is bent from that hope to hell its not. Slight scratching to the exhaust rear fairing piece, and the pillion foot rest.

I am totally fine bike jacket and helmet did a great job, along with gloves. Basically all my gear was great I have probably got a bruised knee at most.

Just gutted about the bike, realise the whole thing was my fault for not paying attention to the road in front of me. Had a good time at the bike show, bought myself a bike lock.

unlucky dude but from experience, one lifesaver would have done it. too much 'not looking where you are going' was the cause as you noticed
personally i dont do lifesavers at all, i tend to keep a regular eye in my mirrors, wait for whatever to pass me then pull out. never been a prob to me.

By the way, it wasn't you that was filtering between lane 2 and 3 (centre and fast lane) on the m6 in that big traffic jam, going northbound on the M6?

It sure to me looked like a red 250 hornet, couldn't see what gear you were wearing, or the play but i knew you said you were going to take your bike back to uni

Bugger! Sounds like a carbon copy of how my off occurred last Christmas. I was on a dual carriage way and changing lanes and between the time I'd done my life saver and mirror check the car in front had slammed on and the time I'd wasted looking over my shoulder cost me the space I needed to stop

Now I've got an extra mental check before I make a lane change and thats; Do I have space to make a life safer and stop. And consider both lanes, the one you're in and the one you're aiming to move into.

Hope your bike doesn't reveal any hidden damage! And good to hear you escaped relatively unharmed.

This is the difference between a mere mortal and a riding god. On the very few occasions I did a life-saver I was able to see behind me with one eye and forward with the other. It's called peripheral vision. Learn to make use of that, instead of the luxury of a full screen-shot, and you'll stay upright longer.

easily done, only takes a second lapse or a miss judgement.

Bikes can be fixed or replaced, you are a bit harder to fix up and to replace.

Not fully comp so there isn't any point, and the car in front didn't stop so nothing I can do about that

Probably wouldn't have gone through insurance as I'd lose 2 and a half years no claims. Although if the frame is bent it could of been worth it.

Aye would agree, I am glad I am fine, and very lucky that there was no major damage to me and the bike.

After speaking to my Dad again today he thinks I didn't actually hit the car, I turned around and grabbed a handleful of brake, cold tyres, very grease roads plus sudden braking (so no loading of front tyre) meant the the front lock and tucked under, which to be honest I'd tend to agree with more, I can't remember hitting the actual car however I think I was very close.

Oh well I should top reminiscing and let it be, it has happened shit can't change that now.

Back luck mate, I was stuck in about 20 minutes of traffic on the M42 between 2 and 3 after the show too, due to an accident. Was in the car so nothing I could do about the queue!

I have sent mine to lonsdale bikes DS55,

Not sure how much it is gonna cost me, but it was the only place that would even touch the frame.
Does insurance work mainly i think

Hopefully it wont be out of shape though
Takes a fair bit to bend them i think, mine went end over end at 90 and it is only down by a cm or so



KK i would trade a burnt out wreck of a bike for an unbroken shoulder...
PITA and is gonna take months, if at all to get full movement back into it. at about 60% at the mo, which is enough for normal stuff, push too far though and it aches for hours afterwards

Take it easy with that shoulder Dean, you want it to heel, properly the first time. I know my Dad made his knee worse after he had an operation on it, thinking it had healed and he could go running again. Hope it sorts out soon, I will be needing another hornet rider to ride with.

the bone has knitted together again
So am okay to do gym and stuff again which I anm hoping will free it up
Went for first time today for light exersise. Will see how it is tomorrow.
Physio said I am okay for gym, just dont do weights


Anyways... back on topic...
Think i will always have a Hornet, this one is prob gonna end up tracked in a year or so, and the CB1000r is looking nice..
Or the Kwak Z1000

I can ride now, just need a bike and I want more strength in my arm as the physio was overpowering it using 1 finger.
Waiting for a sunny day to trick my mate into taking me pillion (he doesnt do rain, or cold, or clouds)

haha sounds like a good day to go pillion then.

Hmm I was sitting on the cb1000r and it felt very comfy, just like my hornet with slightly different bars, but the pegs etc where in the right place. Would look the sex with a few after market bits.

maybe change the undertray to tidy the tail up a bit, but other than that I like it...

Gonna get pillion seat cover and belly pan for mine once I get it back
