Right then, who has had one, or driven one and what did you think. Not really my thing, but I certainly wouldn't mind one. Prices seem prettty good and 137mph is faster than my bike.

I think young birds would like it, too.

Perhaps my mid-life crisis is approaching.

What'd you want the car for?

Not on the top of my car list but then my needs may well be different from yours.

The 206cc was a nice car to be in, not too sure what it was like to drive?

Ah, I see.

Bit girly but would fit the bill.

The road tax will be high for a cheap car.

Although I'd prefer a Mazda 6, I doubt impressionable tarts would look twice.

I had a 'W' reg one for about a year. It was the 137bhp version, not the 180bhp.

I'm 6'2 and found it to have loads of room.

Had half leather interior which was nice, climate control and a couple of other nice little touches.

Had to get rid as the insurance was £250 per month, I was only 19 at the time.

A nice little surprising car. Certainly surprised an MR2 once and an Audi driver who was surprised I could keep up with him. You tend not to expect it from a 206.

I'd have one again although 206's tend to have a reputation as being unreliable.

They are quite cheap to buy these days - https://www.freecarvaluation.org.uk/

I test drove a couple back in the summer. Found it to be a very dissapointing car and not really deserving of the peugeot GTI badge. Handling was ok but nothing special and the engine was very much gutless for a 2.0 137 bhp sounds alot but it isnt in reality. The car Clarkson is reveiwing in that link is the GTI 180 which is a 180bhp 6 speed version with 17 inch alloys and decent seats which hold their value well. For the same money you could get yourself a very good example of a late 306 GTI6 which is a massivly better car 167bhp and 6 speed. I test drove one of these after a 206 GTI and found it to be like night and day. Amazing handling and a lovely sounding engine The plus of the 306 GTI is that all of them were registered before the date for the expensive tax cut off so you wont end paying silly money for tax like you will for a later 206 GTI. Another to consider is the Clio 172.

In the end I went for a Focus ST170 which to me felt the most like a 306 GTI 6 in handling and power terms but with modern safety and low milage.

The GTi-6 is definitely the one to go for I believe - and seems you can get them pretty cheap these days.

Though, for that money you could get a Nissan 200SX, a Subaru Impreza WRX, or a BMW 328i Sport coupe. Given those choices, I wouldn't be going for the front wheel drive hatchback Smile.

Oh and of course I'd say Jeremy Clarkson liking it is often a bad thing, judging by the complete lack of thought and snobbish attitudes he loves to display... must go get myself an Audi, then Razz.

ive driven a couple of 206s, not GTis, so my opinion may be reduntant, but the ones i have driven have been pretty rubbish.

The steering feels so loose, no feedback at all, and the gearbox also felt like a curb crawlers vag after a night on the game.

Fair enough point, although he may say it how it is, not sure I'd take buying advice from him.

137bhp from a 2 litre engine is not exactly fast for a 'hot hatch'. I just don't like the styling on the 206, the 306 on the other hand is a more appealing to me, the cabrio looks good and may I say, mannish enough to drive?

Another vote for it not really deserving the GTi badge.
I tested one a while ago, steering wheel felt vaguely connected to the wheels, suspension was a tad soggy and gave lots of wallowy understeer, engine appeared gutless for a 2.0 - 137bhp from a 2 litre engine means it is in a fairly low state of tune.

If you want a FWD 'warm' hatch, then i can only advise you to test a Suzuki Swift Sport: 1.6i engine with VVT(125bhp), revs highly, firm suspension, excellent road holding, well overbraked for a car of same size/weight. Horrible for long journeys (4500rpm @70mph), but down a twisty road i actually laugh out loud at how much fun it is!
(Oh, and cheap insurance too, only group 9)

Oh, BTW, i've got one for sale if you want one. Just got a company car (Seat Leon FR550) which is the faster car 'on paper' but i reckon the Swift is a quicker 'point-to-point' car, and is certainly far more fun - the Seat is a tad boring, and it's only the 3rd gear wheelspins that make journeys entertaining.

Our new next door neighbour has a Swift in yellow, can't believe at how much bigger it is compared to the wifes Ka.

Nice little car, I'd have one but the Suzuki badge would put me off a little. On a bike I'd trust it, on a car?

If it's yellow it's a 'non-Sport' model - the Sport is only available in red, black and silver.

As can be gathered from my username, i clearly have a soft spot for Suzuki bikes. Personally, i'd never have considered a Suzuki car until i read all the rave reviews the Swift had and took one for a test and was very, very impressed.
I do reckon that all their other cars in their range are shit though.

Thumbs Up

I see, its got a little kit on it like the sport so I put 1 and 1 together.

The Suzuki car range is a strange mix and yes the Swift being the only car I'd consider as said before.

I've owned one, sold it approximately 18 months ago - pretty good motor, quick, comfortable (assuming you were in sat in the front - rear was pretty cramped), good spec, air con, leather/suede seats, Factory Fitted Sunroof, 6cd Stereo, the list goes on.

It really was a fun car to drive (struggling to find a pic of it at the mo), but it isn't a car that's family friendly unfortunately. I owned a 106 GTi a few years ago, out of the two (as a fun/exhilerating driving experience) the 106 pissed all over the 206 in my opinion Thumbs Up

I had one and loved it. Fit it with an induction kit and they sound great.

Awesome handling and a pokey wee engine, heavy though, but feels lighter than it is.

I've driven one or two of the lower spec variety over the years, as others have stated they are pretty rubbish.

Only useful thing I can add is, if you have feet bigger than maybe a size 9 forget it.

Compared to what? I would never own a French car again. I would rather buy a German or Jap car a few years older for the same money.
