hi,

go easy on my please lads Laughing

i have just emptied my gearbox oil from my supercity, while it was all black and shitty... there was another problem Embarassed there was only about 90-100mm that emptied out Embarassed i dont think i even topped it up the last time i emptied the oil... just done the nut back up and went for a ride. how stupidly thick am i!! done about maybe 1000miles with that tiny ammount in the box Shocked
cant believe myself, what a stupid error to commit!!
think i should be burned at stake Exclamation

but hey, im filling her up with 800mm of nice new brown fresh light oil.
god forgive me for i have sinned Embarassed

wondered why finding neutral was so difficult upon the first few miles on the day and why the was a ting ting ting noise coming from the gearbox.
would that of been the result of a very deprathed gearbox?

well now the fresh stuff is in, the bike rides a whole lot better and also doesnt make the ting ting ting noise it did before, or maybe its dampened the noise. pull away is also so, so much better. clutch seems happier anyway Cool

consider it run in properly now then Thumbs Up
easy mistake to do when your mind is on other things.

one of our artics at my old place lost its sump plug on the M6, dropped all the oil (35 litres of it Shocked ) and fookered the crankshaft. the garage didnt do it up.
consider yourself a bit lucky.

brave of you to admit to that mate, I take my hat off to you for your honesty, I would have topped it up and said nowt though 1000 miles says good things about your engine and the fact you dont thrash it, good luck with future oil changes

well lets just say i deserved to admit it, seeing as i made a school boy error, my way of punishing myself Laughing

i think that the box wasnt going to last much longer, with it starting to get hard finding neutral and really having to force the gears, lucky i caught it when i did or i would now be starting a thred: anyone got a cheap supercity bottom end for sale? Laughing Laughing Laughing

I'm no expert but as the CityFly is based on the XLR125 and therefore a 4-stroke engine with shared gearbox/engine oil (possibly with a wet clutch) aren't you in danger of having shagged the whole thing?

I'd be inclined to consult a manual, as 800ml may or may not be the correct amount of oil for your engine (too much can be just as damaging as too little).

Also I've managed to glean, from a web search, that Honda recommend changing the oil every 1250 miles (2000Km).

In fact try PM'ing cicatrez he's got one.

You certainly aren't an expert as he's talking about a Supercity, not a CityFly Mr. Green

Cheers

I bought an RS50 that the owner said had been serviced.

I took his word and didn't check fluids. Was out on a ride out and I hear a grinding noise so I clutch in and stop at the side of the road.

The noise goes when the clutch was pulled in. So 80 quid recovery truck later and I try to drain the box and fuck all comes out Laughing

I replaced the sump plug and washer and topped it back up and it run fine Smile
