I suppose I have no one to blame but myself, as I gazed out the window this morning something in my head said "get the train you idiot".

Wouldn't be the first time I ignored my intuition and paid the price.

My road was icey but I figured once I got onto the main roads I should be ok. Which I may well have been, if I'd even got that far.

I was probably about 30-40 metres down the road from my house, a van and a couple of cars were approaching so I gently pressed on the back brake so that I wouldnt lock the wheel or anything, and then I just felt it slide underneath me and to the left hand side. When I used to BMX some years ago, after crashing so many times you kind of get this instinct of when its a good time to bail, an I guess that kicked in this morning as I kind of just knew what was going to happen so I kicked off the bike to the side and went sliding along, I was going about 15-20mph maximum.

I actually remember sliding along the road, looking toward my bike and thinking in slow-motion action movie style "Noooooooooooooooooooooooo!!".

I was completely unhurt, I think this is down to the road being icey, such that I just slid along instead of being cheese-grated by the tarmac. I got straight back on my feet, hit the killswitch on my bike as a bloke got out of his van to ask if I was ok. Threw my gloves down an picked up the bike.

To be honest, I think I've come away extremely lucky, the only damage done is a smashed left mirror, smashed left indicator, and some scratching on the fairing, all of which I can deal with. At first I couldnt shift geas properly but after walking it back to my house and trying again I think all the gears are fine now, bike starts and drives ok.

Today I learnt that motorbikes and icey roads do not a good combination maketh. Looks like its the train from now until March time-ish.
