5 months of riding and its happened, Yes got knocked off last night on the commute home by a white 14 toner with no number plates on and the bastard drove off. Evil or Very Mad

I was filtering on the east Lancs near leigh and when I was just passing the 14 toner when he decided last min to turn right, he was on my right and as he turned very late his back end swung out and took me out. Was only doing 15mph ish so no real damage apart from scratches and no injury.

Just pissed of my bike wouldnt start so I could chase the bastard.

Anyway bikes fine now and so am I, just thought I would share my story.

Were you undertaking? You need to watch for the rear end swinging out on large vehicles, give them plenty of room. Should be easy to see as they don't accelerate that fast. Chances are his numberplate was high up as most are positioned there nowadays. He also probably wouldn't even know he had hit you as it would be like running over a cats eye at the most.

Nothing wrong with that, I presumed you were riding next to the kerb and not on a duel carriageway.

No in the middle of the two lanes on a Dual carriageway, with the third lane to turn right only.

If you were filtering then I'm assuming there was traffic on the dual carriageway, did they stop to help or anything - try to get the trucks plate?

thats a bit of a close call

i dont know if he was in the wrong or you were, but i know its good to be wary around such big vehicles with limited visibilty

i think the main thing is you are lucky to be alive, i wouldnt want to get underneath a 14 tonner

Agreed .......... as someone who drives 40+ tonne articulated trucks, even though I try to look out for bikers, the rear visibility can be limited at times. Especially as soon as I start a turning manouver as you reliant on what you can see in the mirrors, and in poor conditions such as rain, the view in the mirror can be really bad.

Though there have been fools on bikes, who have done really stupid stuff. That make even me cringe

Me neither ........... I`ve seen the mess they make of cars, who ventured into the inside turning radius of truck

I`ve never known of a 14 tonner ...........7.5T, 18T, 24T (rigids)
and 30T, 38T, 40T, 44T artics....... but never a 14 tonner

Be careful everyone around big trucks, and if in doubt hold back a few seconds. it could save your life

It would be an 18 tonne as the 7.5 tonne would have felt the impact and also would see it.

That makes sense, something that size, the outswing while turning of the extented body can be huge

I've been in town traffic a few times and held back near HGVs and Coaches, only to see them pull a manuevre (HGVs are usually sensible, but coaches drivers are cvnts).

I'm all for that sensor technology they are developing on some cars, could be a great addition to large vehicles to warn of objects/vehicles in close proximity/blind spots.

I know where you mean, I wouldn't filter past a lorry there as usually a wagon in that lane will turn right.
like you said you get to live and learn.
Little tip with the East Lancs, either filter to the front or filter as far as you can and get back in your lane. Saves loads of hassle.

MAN do 15t's,
sorry to hear about it mate,
like you say, you live and learn, and will always be more aware of your surroundings now and know to expect the unexpected

my job involves working with wagons and doing delivery's, however we have cameras on the back end so know exactly what's around us

If you look into the Trucks mirrors and cant see the drivers eyes, then he has ZERO chance of spotting you
If you can see him, it doesnt mean to say he has seen you, or even looked

Same goes for all vehicles, but trucks have a MUCH bigger blind spot
Remember than the larger trucks have a blind spot in front diagonally to the left and right as well.

Dont ride in peoples blind spots, drop back to at least behind their vehicle, so if they do change lanes you arent where they change too.

Dark nights, cold weather, steamed up windows = watch out for yourself, no one else will. Thumbs Up
