I've just moved to Cambridgeshire (Huntingdon area) from Scotland and finding the shitness of the roads extremely depressing Crying or Very sad I know I've been spoiled by brilliant scottish roads but are there any half decent twisty roads around here that I can enjoy? Twisted Evil

Hey Tommy, i'm in Huntingdon, we should go riding sometimes (yea i know only a 125 Sad) As for riding roads, i tend to go down to Offord Cluny, right now it's a bit crap due to the amount of salt/mud in the middle of each lane but they are some nice roads.

Pm me if you fancy a ride at some point.

Snowdonia might be a bit far for a quick sunday blast Laughing I'll have a look down Offord Cluny way though, anywhere else? I like quite tight roads so you can really crank the bike over without having to do silly speeds, most of the corners round here are no fun in double figures Crying or Very sad

We could always go out for a blast one weekend and see what we find, problem now is the roads are covered in crap.

I get my Pilots on Tuesday, it may only be a 125 but i WILL get my knee down i swear :p And don't worry i'm not some 17 year old chav, i'm 21 but just haven't had the cash to do my DAS.

Tried the route up to Alconbury? i regularly do it, but on current tyres it's am 'experience' to say the least.

On a side note, there used to be a meeting place in Hartford Marina every tuesday, now the weather is getting warmer i expect there will be far more bikes going up there. i'll be going up there Tuesday night to see if there's anyone about.

I lived in Cambridgeshire before coming to uni (near Cambridge) and you're right - the roads aren't all that interesting. Get into Suffolk or North Essex and things get a bit better.

Thanks for the tips and the offers of ride outs, I'll do some exploring when I get the bike sorted for the summer, needs a few jobs doing for now.

During the summer there is a regular bike meet at the pub at Hartford Marina on Tuesday evenings. This is virtually in Huntingdon. You will meet people there and be shown countless lovely roads.
There are some good ones between Peterborough and Huntingdon in you avoid the A1M.

I was at the Marina quite a lot last year, I didn't know anyone off this forum went up there, I'll have to keep an eye out when the meets start again.

There are some good roads around Cambs.

There's also the A507, parts of the A505, and some of the roads off that.

Thumbs Up

What pisses me off is that because i'm on a 125 i get dismissed instantly, rather annoying. Was out earlier, actually managed to get a couple of bikers to nod back, i may be slow on the straights but once i've got my nice shiny new tyres on tues i'll keep up on the slow twisties!

its not a case of snobbery if a 125 is riding with us we cant go over about 60mph we like to ride fast on 100mph twisties also filtering on country lanes is a problem on 125s so its no fun having to wait but im happy to have the odd slow ride every now n then
what you up to this afternoon?

Not interesting?

Are we discussing the same fenland-throw-you-into-a-ditch-so-you-don't-get-found-until-it-is-dredged -in-spring roads I spent my teenage years on?

60mph on them is worth 180mph on the M1 (Possibly even 100mph+ on one wheel!)

Ride or Bike did a route planer of the UKs best roads a couple of years ago and Cambs had a couple of them.

<edit: It was Bike 2006>

Oakham is only a 30-40 minute ride from mine.
