Newbie and my new bike

Hi all,

Am a newbie here and so wanted to say hello. I've put this in another thread as well (show and tell) but think it was the wrong one so thought I'd try this one too ! (Deleted it from there now).

Name's Jez and live in Nantwich, Cheshire. Am getting back into bikes after a pretty long break and so am looking forward to getting involved in the forum. Have decided to go for the track for the first time next year - I'd like to have a go at racing eventually but am happy to spend a few years doing track days first getting the skills sorted !

Recently bought my new bike, an '03 CBR 600 F4i and I can't wait to ride it! It came over from Ireland where the last owner had put it on the track. He did 2 track days and a race at Anglesey and decided to stay in the other class he raced in so I bought it off him for a bargain price! It's in great nick, never dropped and only 4300 on the clock. It was tuned by the late John Donnan (only lightly, it was dyno'd at 110bhp at the rear). Got an arrow titanium can, SES rearsets and Ohlins damper and a few other bits and pieces. Anyways, I'll try and put a picture up of it.

Hoping to start at Oulton next year as its only ten minutes away. Anyone else doing a track day there in the New year? Cheers for now, Jez

hi mate, I am from just outside Nantwich and there is another member in Shavington on here. He may say hello. Nice to see you, your bike anyway.

I take it you live on that newish estate near Stapely?

Interesting to see you have one of John Donnans bikes. John was a fantastic road racer, watched him in the TT here in the island and several road meetings in Ireland. If memory serves me correctly he won the Irish Unlimited Road Race Championship in 1999 and was runner up in 2000. Tragically lost his life at Tandragee last year.

I should have read your sig properly! Still, that Kwak will be good for a go on the track when you've got it ready i reckon! Oulton would be a good place for a spectate because its not far from our neck of the woods. Good luck for the practical mate! Cheers, jez

Yes, I'm very proud to have one of his bikes. John was, as you say, a great racer and you're right he was the unlimited champion in '99. It was a tragic loss to road racing when he lost his life at Tradragee. A good man and a great ambassador for the sport. Good to find another fan of his! I'm hoping to be over for the TT this coming year - is there ever a meet up of people from the forum there? Cheers, Jez

Looks like a good bike. Can't work out what a track bike's going wearing Dunlop D208's(I think) though.

Get some new rubber on there sharpish.

Cheers Big Ham, and you're right, it needs new rubber! They are Dunlops - well spotted ! Brand new and not sure why they were put on either - came with the bike! Thinking of some Supercorsa's before it goes out in the New Year. Any recommendations on tyres? Jez
