I have a yamaha sr125, which is now SORN and used for my offroading pleasures, it has been graced with knobblies and i've got spare forks/shockers/rear shocks waiting for it, the only problem is, the 4 stroke engine it comes with, and I am on the second one is simply not powerful enough or geared correctly for my needs, can anyone suggest me an engine prioritizing ease of fitting and reliability? money is as little of an issue as I can make it, I am doing this for love.

I am not wanting neccessarily to keep to 125cc, as this bike is for off road use only.

I need also to find/adapt and fit an exhaust with an expansion chamber suited to the engine in hand, which I do not have, I do not want to use electric starting, kick or in gear is fine, don't need electrics, just for it to run.

2 stroke only, many thanks for your input and fuel for my passion.

Please don't suggest another frame, I have fallen head over heels with this bike and the way it handles in the mud, on tarmac, and and am generally very very used to it having done thousands of miles off and on road on it.

Soul.

Another frame.

Well, first I'd ask if you've actually ridden any dirt bikes for a decent amount of time?

If you're really stuck on your bike, you could buy a cheap CR or similar, then sell the rest of the bits and keep the engine.

i've got a mito 125 engine (7 speed) with all the running gear up for grabs due to my RD350 engine needing a new home... good runner etc, no knocks or anything.

I have not, only miniscule pit bikes, which I do not enjoy so much, I have been thinking about buying a dt125 stolen recovered or some such logbook problem for off the road, a lot of people have said I should try one.

I'm 20 so haven't ridden ANY bike for a decent amount of time really Laughing

Just spent all my time on the sr, so naturally I'm going to like it a lot and be attached to it. Mr. Green

Yea, not been that impressed by pitbikes myself. It depends what you want out of your off-roading, but if you like going fastish, etc, then I'd definitely give a proper off-roader a go.

I'd say get yourself a go on a decent 2 stroke enduro bike. If you're this end of the country, welcome to blag a go on my 200EXC. Compared to a DT it's massively different; and I reckon a DT with knobblies would be decently better than your SR. The EXC has less weight than the SR, a lot longer travel suspension and an engine that'll paw the air in third (and fourth sometimes) as you hit the powerband if you haven't got your weight forward.
