Converting films to play on iPod Touch

Got an iPod touch for christmas, was wondering if there is any software to convert an avi film to the format required to play on the iPod.

It may not be of any use but I use iriverter for converting batches of stuff (series etc) for optimisation and playback on small screens like my phone and a Creative Zen. Nice and simple, does exactly what it says on the tin and isn't too much of a resource hog. Well, inasmuch as any encoding tool can be said to have a small system footprint

I'm presuming that's the only reason you want a converter or does the iPod have limitations as to it's file types?

I use videora but you will need a program called DVD Rip (iirc) to rip the DVD to your computer, then videora to convert it to the retarded ipod file format.
