Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

Dad told me to watch this last night and I had completely forgot about it, thanks for remind me.

For everyone else it is about someone trying to build the fastest bike in the world.

when the biker gang escorted the old guy, a tear came to my eye.

Not really but it was a good moment. Looks very good so far.

Only watched it from about 6 but cracking film. Wouldn't mind watching it fully.

Might grab it on play - only £5 so worth a pint and a half I reckon -

An insightful movie. Does that record actually still stand for a bike under 1000ccs? Or was it just (I hope this doesn't sound too derogatory) the fastest Indian?

Nevertheless, over 200mph from a 1920's v-twin modified by an OAP in his shed, in the 1950s....truly extraordinary. Shocked

Why can't we have projects like that on BCF? I can't recall the last member who forged their own pistons Laughing

That was great! I loved it Very Happy

Worth while buying.

I thought about the recording still standing (as it said at the end) it could be that the rules changed which meant know one else could ever actually break the record. Great film Very Happy

Edit:

Bought Thumbs Up

Rumor has it that Burt made his barrels from pieces of cast iron gas pipe, which he scrounged from the gas company after they had been dug up for replacement.

He reasoned that, after some years in the ground, they were well seasoned. He then made aluminium slices which he shrunk over the pipe to make fins. I can believe it looking at this picture.

I have it on DVD and seen it quite a few times, that scene and the scene where he blows past the biker gang at twice the speed are my favourites...

Though a great film the facts are that sadly he never did achieve 200mph officially. His record does still stand, and I believe it's for the reason above - rule/classification changes mean it cannot be challenged.

There are many records that stand which are achievable though, should someone take it upon themselves to try. Straightliners/200mph are looking to host official UK landspeed records either in 2009 or 2010.

I liked it, what I saw of it between cooking,

How accurate was his accent I wonder?

He was like a high speed version of Fred Dibnah Laughing

I liked the bit on the beach best, and the bit in Nevada was funny.

He didn't do too bad of a job, old Anthony Hopkins. I only noticed a couple of little slips, he sounded quite convincingly "very small town NZ bloke" to me (most of the time).

the bit on the beach

I was saying on another forum earlier that I've been on that beach, earlier this year, when I was home seeing my dad, who lives about 100 miles away from that area.

Some mates took me down there, told me that's where Burt raced the backpatchers in the movie, so what did I say?

"Oh, it looks just the same now as it did then."

Given that, to those of us living in international cities like London, or indeed, Auckland, it does seem as if time were standing still, especially in the lower half of the South Island in NZ where that was filmed, then that's a fairly logical sort of thing to think...

... except the movie was only filmed in about 2005.

LOL, how did I blush when all the burly kiwi blokeys I was with laughed their arses off at me.

Come to think of it....was Burt's bike also legible for the World's Fastest Ratbike? His hands on cheap-as-chips-modify-it-on-in-your-garden-shed mechanical approach and function over form appears to have some similarities.
