Was driving down the A38 Patchway to Filton when a bloke on a CBR 600 f k reg over took me doing about 80 pulled in to my lane then slipped then high sided. He slid 50ft down the road and his bike maybe 100ft I pulled up the bike was still sliding and got out, rider jumped up ??? started picking bits of his bike up from the carriage way?

I walked down to get his bike off the road it was smashed no headlight, levers everything scratched coolant leaking. I helped him picked bike up he didn't say a word. Lots of people turned up and the chap just walked about picking bits up, I don't think its going back together .

Scared me I ride like that most days down that bit of road, he didn't hit anything or swerve just seemed to slip on something.

A mixture of shock and embarrassment.

Good chance the slip was caused by heavy rear braking or heavy throttle, who's to know?

Shock would have made him behave like he did. Also not a great idea twatting about at 80mph when the temperature is minus something. I hope he went to hospital as the adrenalin would hide any injuries.

He was flying past then bike started fish tailing and then he went down, the knees were fucked on his jeans but he looked fine, I tried to talk to him tell to sit down but he was walking about, I can't believe the state of the bike I would love a 600f but not that one now.

I saw that happen to someone who just overtook me then had to slow for a roundabout.
His back tyre was low on tread and there was a bit of greasyness or even diesel on the road.

What was strange was how slowly the loss of control seemed to kick in at first.
For a moment I thought he was just doing it deliberately!

His skin was probably saved by the greasy road. Dry roads wear through clothing much more quickly and a damp/cold road means less build-up of heat.

dreamt about it all night can't believe how far the bike slid , how much noise it made and how easy he came off, and getting a new back tyre then putting the bike away till july.

when i go to college in bristol i stay on filton avenue, was it the dual carridge way at the bottom of there? near mc donalds?
There is alot of bikers in bristol. and the traffic is always manic, i would hate to rider around there often.

That doesnt sound the nicest thing to see but fortunatly it could have been alot worse. Dont let it make you put the bike away though just ride a bit more carefully and youll be fine.

When you say he fishtailed is it possible he had a tank slapper? Alternatively if it was definitely the back wheel locking up maybe his chain came off?

i've managed a spill on a wet oily road in north wales. just came off a roundabout so luckily wasn't going too fast. in retrospect was probably too heavy on throttle, (there really was a proper slick tho!) back wheel flew out, couldn't do a thing. i had regular jeans on and a decent jacket, i just slid on the wet road. ripped a hole in one knee and a shoulder badge off my jacket but skin was all intact! bike went into a zafira coming the opposite way, back of the bike clipped the car and it spun off. damage as shown!
