Has anyone else noticed that these road-hogging beasts-of-Ken are no longer producing steam? It's been months since I've seen the kettle boiling out the top of one, perhaps longer.

I bet they are all running on diesel now - so much for them being heavily-touted as emission-free eh?

I thought that the non-bendy mercedes centaro's or whatever were H2 powered? I used to see them on the strand all the time. I can't remember the bus route... it was the one that went from The Strand/Aldwych to Tower Hill? Either way, come 2011, they'll be gone and replaced with them new futuristic routemasters.

Yes they are supposed to be but why aren't they producing the plumes of steam they used to? One I looked at recently had what looked like a typical diesel-stain on the side.

Boris said on Top Gear that they'd all be gone by 2011...as Titz pointed out earlier.

Not that I care...living in rural Norfolk means I have no contact with bendy busses...just tractors and horse shit!

The steam is condensation caused by cold air entering the engine, they still do it when they first start up but due to emission rules and the way the air intake uses part of the used exhaust gasses it soon stops once the engine is warm.

Actually the Citaro hydrogen fuel-cell buses produce water as a by-product, no exhaust emissions.

I never even noticed they steamed in the first place Shocked I just noticed they got/get in the way. I managed to sneak down the side of one the other day in Trafalgar Square, without getting squished - mind you, I WAS in the car ... still, I was quite pleased, felt very smug getting the better of a bendy bus.

Bendies are easy to defeat in heavy traffic if they are 'bent', drive/ride up alongside them and get to the bend then stop. They can't move without running you over.

Ok, the plan has disadvantages and it safer executed in a car than on a bike......

Yeah, Leeds has some of the same buses too but not as bad as York.

The buses make sense in a freeky deeky dutch/australian road train sorta way.

If you have miles and miles of straight roads, fine, its just london does not...

What is it with marble arch and the bendy busses, they skip out the bottom of the roundabout and just as the lights go green for traffic coming off edgeware road there is ALWAYS a bendy bus that shoots out blocking all 8 lanes of traffic... Twisted Evil

All the ones I've seen around my uni(Islington) are diesel powered, they are all Merc's.

i don't care who makes them, how they are powered and who thinks we need them ....

the fookers take up too much room and usually appear to be carrying far too few passengers here in Brum Evil or Very Mad

rolling fookin traffic jams Evil or Very Mad
