Righty so, been with mce for a year coming up 10th of january,
as my bike is hardly roadworthy im not going to carry on insuring it for another year.
They have sent me a letter thats rather confusing, and ive been put on hold 3 times trying to get through to someone english who can understand a somerset/cornish accent.

What id like to know is are they going to try carrying on the insurance at the renewal date without me asking them to?
as it was taken out on behalf of rbs finsure as i paid monthly, but no new plan has come through, does anyone know whats what?
obviously dont want the pain of trying to claim money back..
cheers Wink

I believe when I had insurance with them they wanted to carry on the direct debit, had to give them a ring to say no and also tell the bank to cancel it too.

I'd cancel the DD if it's all paid for for this year then you've no worries with having to get money back.

Check your documents to see if it say anywhere that the policy will carry on unless you cancel.

Or do what I did when I was with MCE (although I did pay in full up front at the start of the policy), I just emailed them before it ran out and told them that I didn't wish to renew the policy when it lapsed. I kept a copy of the email just in case there was any problems.

MCE used to have and probably still do have a premium rate phone number. Sod that if they think I was going to spend a fortune by ringing them to tell them I didn't want their expensive renewal. Wink

Make sure the policy is not automatically renewed. I had a car insured with elephant and they auto renewed it. Cost me money to cancel it all because I didn't read the letter properly.

Definitely contact your bank and ensure a stop on the DD is placed, otherwise telling Finsure to stop it won't be enough.

I always keep a record of emails to and from them, always making sure I word everything correct to get them to agree to it exactly. At least then its fault on their side not mine sort of thing.

I'm having a full on dispute with 'em at the mo; and was/am doin installments too, just cancel your D/D from a set date and they can't do anything. The contract between you only commences when you initially pay for the service they provide. If they send you anything out inc a statement of fact then send it back as RTS but write on the envelope "not required" this way you don't pay a penny in postage and you haven't accepted the statement of fact, because doing so starts of the contract. Thumbs Up

Yep, Then you need to cancel the DD with your bank.
Also, ring up MCE asap because some insurances require cancellation in writing.

Find out when your last payment for the current year was/is paid, and then end it after that.

Ask them to send you your "proof of no claims entitlement". Don't let them charge you for it either.

cancel and ask them to send proof of entitlement. When you take out your new policy, they may ask why there was a gap in cover - and you can just give them the obvious "I don't like to ride in the snow Thumbs Down " for example. Less common for them to ask that on bike insurance for obvious reasons - had someone refuse to insure me once because I took my car off the road for 2 months to rebuild the engine Rolling Eyes
