Looking for inspiration on DIY top boxes; your own or ones you've seen you've liked.

Aesthetics not important. Initially will be used on my zx9 (no mounting points at the mo, will probably cut up the pillion seat).
I'll be making something to securely hold a laptop or two, gym stuff and maybe shopping while riding, then a one piece armoured textile suit and helmet when parked up.

Ideally not too heavy weight (as it'll be quite big and may be mounted on light weight trail bikes like a CRM or CCM), so wondering what to base it on. Got some commercial plastic storage boxes, but the standard 'EU' sized ones seem a bit too flimsy and the tougher ones are probably a bit /too/ big (though still in consideration).[/i]

Seen them done as panniers, but no where near big enough for the ones I've seen.
Idealy I would like it to have at least 80lt capacity or so; these panniers are 42lt each as an example...

although clear probably isnt a good idea

you can get the big white plastic storage boxes that you put fish and ice in, that would be sweet,
you'd just need to put hinges and a lock on the lid.

or may be a little large at 180 litres Very Happy

rubbermaid has some good continers, i dont know who stocks there stuff in the uk,
but a look around one of the plastic box companys should sort you out with a suffiently large and sturdy box

This really is as big a topbox as is feesable for using ont road. Fits two full size elmits with space to spare.
What you can't see is the touratech luggage anchor points/draw handles form b&q.

pm for details of the name e.t.c.

Details of that topbox would be interesting, but I've given up for the moment and fitted the Givi Scooter-top box I had on the CCM to the rear seat for the moment.
Will re-consider in the future, but so far it hasn't been a big pain having a laptop on my back.

Top-spec Ohlins Shock, WP Fork internals, head work to give 143hp, downgeared, bar muffs and a scooter top box stuck into the rear seat Smile ...

Make your own , strangely out of DJ equipment, I worked out it'd be ab out £30 for a nice set of paniers (including zinc steel sides), beats the zega/touratech ones by at least £400.

Just the sort of thing I was looking for Thumbs Up.
Looks simple enough, might give it a go some time.
