I use NOD32 and haven't had a single problem, its also a nice program as it isn't intrusive and covers all the bases. Also updates frequently.

All you can realy do is go for a big name and hope for the best, get all the latest updates and run regular scans.

Other than that, theres not a lot you can do other than be carefull yourself.

Something like Norton 360, McAfee etc, normally a safe bet.

The important thing to remember, is nothing will ever be water tight, the AV's and the Virus' will evolve together, and more advanced techniques will be used to bypass the AV systems. Thats why its important to keep up with the updates, as its the best you can realy do at the moment.

Its all a bit over-hyped IMO

I have my laptop, desktop and the missus netbook all running Avast for antivirus (not had a virus for years) and a router with a firewall built in. I scanned all 3 for virii last night funnily enuff and found nothing.

Its down to common sense really. Dont go on shitty sites and dont installing every bit of software you find.

Currently watching 360 scan trojans and adware spyware and find nothing wrong. Confused Checked the scan history and its never found/removed a virus or thought the pc needed defraging.

Currently got a a prob with em-pc-on-internet opening tabs at the min. Plus the keyboard isn't a responsive as it should be. Going to have to get it looked at. Confused

People think they're safe with Norton but you guys really aren't. The reason that it shows up as not detecting stuff is because viruses easily disable it and get around it since most viruses are made for big name programs.

I use AVG on all my computers, Malware Antibytes (once a week) and Spybot with tea timer running to show me any changes to my registry. I don't tend to use firewalls because practically every router has them and a hardware firewall will always be better than a software one.

Unless, for example, you're trying to stop the way over 50% of all trojans work.

Hence the use of AVG.
