Probably my first post in here for bloody ages! Laughing

Finally got myself a car and after 9 winters all this ice and freezing riding isn't interesting anymore. lol
Yes, i am kinda eating my hat, i said it wouldn't happen... Embarassed

Right, the Ninja's fine, covered in WD40, ie started her every so often over winter....what i would like to do when i get some slightly better weather is the stubborn road dirt. Mainly in and around swing arm, shock, forks, under belly etc...whats the best way of getting this off. Im not looking for showroom finish but it doesnt look great.

Cheers Thumbs Up

I use Hien Geriatric Gel on me machine.
Spray on dry bike.
Leave it about 10 mins.
Blast of with Karcher.
Bright like a mirror with one sweep.

Maybe need two shots though.
Another mental but effective way petrol and a brush. But deadly deadly dangerous in confined space.

Was that the answer?

One question tho, he says WD40 wont harm the O rings of your chain and I'm sure I read here or elsewhere that WD40 is not O ring friendly.

I use Pro Clean (available from Performance Triumph in 'Nam L/£5 or 5L/£20) similar to the HG gel, spray-on, rinse-off, Killa san.

For stubborn grease and stuff I use spray Gunk (£5 Halfords) on a piece of stockinette (also Halfords or Wilko) or clean rag then spray all over with an inhibitor of your choice WD40/GT85/FS365 etc...

<shrug>
If he used on the blade chain and it's ok then I guess it is O-Ring friendly.

Not so much that it's not O ring friendly, but it's a degreaser and penetrator, and it'll do just that. O rings aren't the easiest place to get oil back into once you've cleaned it out.

At least, that's my understanding.

I think you'd do well to degrease the O-rings themselves.

https://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=345397

Studies the effect of various chemicals on O-rings. Thumbs Up

(If you can't be arsed to read it, don't use Petrol or Carb cleaner).

Scottoil do a good degreaser, but bog standard WD40 should remove just about any crap (including tar spots) off your bike.

I tend to use Paraffin or Diesel. My CBR's going to get a nice spruce once the winter's over. Agitate with a brush and repeat if necessary. It brought my R6 up a treat last year and helped in the early stages on my NC30 resto.

Make sure you take as much of the bike apart as possible to do it properly, and regrease any areas where necessary.
