Are they to be be avoided? Looking to spend ~£1000 on a first car, my old man has suggested going to the auctions.

I'm a bit apprehensive, thinking I'm gonna get stung with a cheap car but massive repair bill.

So has anyone got any experience with them?

You can get some good bargains from them, especially now with the state the economy is in.

Go early so you can have a good look over the car you like the look of.

Know and remember your limit, DO NOT go over it or things can get expensive.

Some places give a warranty BUT it is usually only for an hour or so after the sale. Check the auction site for details as some don't as well.

Best auction sites are BCA or Manhiem.

Read through whichever site you go for as they do commision etc

A quick couple of tips from someone in the motor trade.

1) Go to a couple of sales before you buy, and watch the auctioneer very carefully to see what he/she does. If you get all excited on your first time, you'll stand out, and you'll find yourself bidding against a drainpipe or a window.

2) Stand somewhere nearby as they start up the car you're interested in. You can tell a lot from how (and if!) it starts and runs from cold.

There are some bargains to be had at auction as long as you know what you're doing. Good luck! Very Happy

You know when smoke starts coming from your car and you nurse it to a dealers and part ex it in without them noticing that it's fucked.

When i did work experiance with BCA car auctions
i remember they have a waurentee on the car true its sometihng silly like 24 hours but thats usually enough to check transmission, and the other major things it covers!
