My niece has a scooter on some kind of scheme for college people. The woman who runs it all has just granted her a new 'upgrade' albeit the same bike but less crashed. So shes been back for the new one at one of the local garages. It has been crashed (as you would expect, they are basically free so no gripe there) but they are supposed to be checked over by the mechanics at the place. She immediately complained that the front wheel was crooked but all she got was 'its fine, I dont have time to take it apart now just take it'. Now bearing in mind shes 18 and not the most confident person she took his word for it.

So its home to complain to me that its pulling to the side etc. The front wheel was quite wonky so I went for my first ride of the year (on a bleedin 125 scoot FFS!!) and deduced it was a death trap. Ive since bent the wheel back in and now it seems fine, shes happy with the test ride.

Now obviously there must be some point to this thread (as I know your all thinking about it) but why on earth would these idiots let a young girl out on a scooter in that state. Makes you wonder what else they are prepared to let go unrepaired. You think you could trust these people to look out for the more naieve end of the market but it appears they don't give a shit.

From some recent threads it seems to be fairly typical behaviour, an unfortunate thing that its now starting to creep into the local places as well as the dealers. Im actually quite mad and thinking of calling round to ask what they are playing at but Im guessing I wont get anywhere. What a bunch of arseholes. Thumbs Down

Them being the magic words. Add 'local authority' and 'negligent' in the strongly worded letter you'll be writing to the scheme's organiser, and I've no doubt the garage will be getting a bit of a rocket.

But yeah, Thumbs Down to mechanics who just can't be arsed to take pride in their work.

Yeah, I reckon it won't be too long before we hear there's a local authority scheme for dishing out blunt instruments for all parents with severe psychotic tendencies.

I reckon you should go round there and tell them their mistake, and maybe follow it up a few weeks later "How have you changed your procedures?". Then, if still nothing has happened, (and we all know they won't do a thing about it), go to the local rag and spill your guts. Thumbs Up

And don't forget to update this thread!

Take it to a local garage to have a look at it and get a safety report on it.
Then go to the group followed by trading standards, local press etc.
Should soon see the group responsible sorted out.

Mind you might make for a nice claim, should something happen while riding.. Sick

Unfortunately the group responsible has spread themselves a bit thin and are due to run out of funding in the next 3-4 weeks. Its a good cheap scheme but unfortunately it appears that the safety has suffered. bear in mind she has to pay £15 a month, for that she gets the bike, a brand new helmet and a jacket + insurance and tax. Any kind of complaint now may as well be made via urination on the office wall because they aint giving a shit. The garage however are an immoral piece of shit regardless of money etc. The poor little ped seems fine now after I gave it some fettling so its not that bad, its just the garage that still winds me up. I really want to walk in there and show them up in front of potential customers (as theres no other gain to be made) but luckily they have made a rod for their own back locally as they have no stock and no trade at the moment from what I hear. I hope the credit crunch doesnt hit them too hard Neutral Thumbs Up

Any bikers from Cumbria who think they may find themselves in rainy Whitehaven give me a shout and I'll let you know the name of this joke shop Wink not a shitty covered barge pole long enough for me to touch them with Laughing

Ahh. That'll be the place I entirely failed to buy a grey import bike off even though I really wanted one because I got the overwhelming impression they couldn't give a shit. Same place I failed to take my bike to for a dyno run.

I know the scheme. As you'd expect. Any scheme providing a free 'ped to 16/17 year olds has fallen foul of the male of the species. There is a big pile of them crashed to fuck in my local bike shop in Cockermouth.

On that point. The guy there is one of only two people in the whole of Cumbria I'd take a bike to and expect the job that it was booked in for to be done and done properly..

Does a sensible MOT too. Everything gets a good going over. Borderline 'in the testers oppinion' stuff passes or fails depending on who brought the bike in. He'd pass something for me that would fail if a 17 year old brought it in eg "bit of play in that cush drive, get it sorted before next time.".
