Outside of work today a pair of traffic orroficers had stopped a Yamaha Fazer. After they had buggered off I had a natter with the fazer rider while he was having a fag.

Turns out the coppers had been travelling the opposite way, done a U turn and followed him for 3 miles. Their reason for stopping him was that he had a headlight out.
The rider had then spent half an hour explaining that the bike had 2 headlights, one for main and the other was for dipped. They obviously didnt believe him because he was given a rectifcation ticket for it.
He said that when he explained to them how it works they became annoyed and was told "no road vehicles work that way"

What a bunch of toss pot, how on earth can this sub human scum get a job in traffic when they dont even know how headlights work.

Anyway his name is Mark and fingers crossed he will be signing up here later so he can tell you more.

he should have got the chaps collar number (may have it on the ticket?)

Go into the station and make sure to speak to a chap who knows what he is talking about and get it sorted

The ripping the guy will get will be unbearable. Smile

Also if he had a headlight out why did they follow him for 3 miles?
Surely stopping him as soon as it was safe and making him aware of the "defect" was the safest approach?

I was agreeing with you and could see your point right up until the " sub human scum" . Why do people have to keep on batting that bit on and on and on and on?

With regards to the stop, there may have been more to it, the devil is always in the detail, but the copper used the headlight as the excuse to check further.
His knowledge of bikes does seem to be poor, or he may have been playing dumb to get other info to confirm or dispell any issues he thought that might be wrong with the bike, the biker or in the way he was riding,
Or of course he could have been a true Numpty.

As far as I could tell that was the only reason for the stop. He didnt get a ticket for anything else and his bike was completely standard (damn nice and clean too!!) I can only tell you what i was told. Still I think its a case of the policeman being a numpty.

Because they have seen Hetzer saying it. And now it has lost it's effectiveness, as the original "sub-human" comments are now grouped with people undeserving of them.

If he joins the forum then humble pie maybe on my menu

Exactamundo. Thumbs Up

And "sub-human scum" never loses it's effectiveness, because unlike "cunt" it absolutely describes with damning accuracy the truly loathesome and despicable.

I agree that it doesn't lose its effectiveness, if used appropriately. It's when it starts popping up constantly that it will become uneffective, which would be a shame, as it's an excellent way to describe people deserving of that label.

I fucking hate coppers but there's something rotten in Denmark with this story.

Wouldn't a demonstration of the lights have done the job?

Or am I missing something simple?

I'm not entirely sure how the light sequence works, but I'd imagine the dipped beam would stay on when the main beam is turned on. If that's the case, it wouldn't help to prove that the second lamp should have a dipped option.

I once got a HORT1 for failure to produce a valid CBT certificate when I was stopped on my Jawa 350 (for aggrivated riding around in posession of a face he didn't like the look of) and produced my full driving licence on the spot when requested.

The copper in question was clearly thick as pigshit and no amount of insistance on my part would convince him I didn't need one. I told him I last saw it going in an envelope addressed to the DVLA along with my pass certificate and provisional licence some two years previously. They then exchanged it for the full licence he was looking at.

He informed me I would be in "A lot of trouble" if I didn't produce a CBT certificate within 7 days.

I went straight down to his local nick and showed it to his desk sergeant. I got the overwhelming impression a thick ear was in the offing when laddo got back in.

If they've given a rectification ticket, hopefully there should be a paper trail back to the cops.

Letter to his chief or whatever is in order, requesting a full written apology and an explanation of how they will train their staff better in future Thumbs Up.

Hmm sounds familiar.

I got called a cnut by plod because when riding my two-stroke NSR it sounded like I was ragging it as I approached a police (stasi-esque) checkpoint late one evening. You should have seen the puffed-up twat go, he had to be dragged away by the officer in charge. Rolling Eyes

I had the same problem once, but I explained to the copper and he was quite understanding about it. He didn't go out of his way though just came up to me when I was parked up.

No need to get funny about it.

It's the same with most things in life, there's good coppers and bad, it's just that the impact of meeting with the bad is very memorable. I've been let off with speeds approaching double the national speed limit because the roads were empty and I was only endangering myself Thumbs Up I've also lost my licence for nudging over the speed limit accidentally whilst having a tank bag on that obscured the speedo Thumbs Down Just take the rough with the smooth...or become a mentalist like many on here and think society is always out to get you Laughing

Fair play i've had loads of people come upto to me on an old scooter with the 'you got a head light out mate' bit. But you think i copper would be a little more educated on the matter than your average joe. Unless as said there was more to it then meets the eye.

Not quite the topic discussed, but the original title fits...

Got to the roundabout that i work on (my office is in the middle of a big old roundabout / gyratory / whatever they're called) and had to stop at the lights. I can just see the other set of lights turn red so prepare to go and a prius heads straight through them, then i notice the met stickers on the side of it! We all start going and the prius cuts across 4 lanes and stops at the next set of lights. I look over but get distracted by an aprilla, also at the lights, rider gives me a nod and then i notice traffic moving again, "ooops, missed the lights go green" i thought and start to head off then have to jam on the brakes as i notice the red! bloody met prius jumping lights again!

I had a copper pull me on my Mito Evolution (one of the first ones in the UK back in about 1991) and he would not believe that it was a 125. I'd just bought the bike and he just would not let me go, even citing the '7 speed gearbox' sticker as proof that it couldn't be a 125. He ended up calling a bike copper who arrived and promptly said 'Yep, it's a 125'. He then went on to talk to me about it as he hadn't seen one in the flesh. The car copper left, very promptly, still gave me a producer though Rolling Eyes

This was in Cornwall though Mr. Green

Cheers
