Would think you could get an evo 8 for 10k.

I'd probably go for an RX-8.

MAC1 WORX:

https://images.pistonheads.com/aimg/845/845413-1.jpg

152Bhp @ 435Kg.

It's not a Jap car (engine is though), but it is different and very, very quick. I'd expect to see it hit 0-60 in sub-4 seconds.

Thumbs Up

Seriously though, you could try and narrow it down a bit for us, i.e:
4WD, RWD or FWD?
N/A engine or forced induction?
2 or 4 seats?
Straightline speed or twisty slayer?
etc......

Can you pick up a 350Z for 10k? I guess the market must be crashing.

I very very nearly bought an RX8 for 8k with 15k miles on the clock. Then I realised it would probably ruin my life with its thirstyness and poor build quality.

An evo 8 for 10K too? Im only surprised because for the first time in my life I have more than that sat in the bank for the house deposit and I may have to trade off getting rid of the missus and living at home forever for an EVO 8 Laughing

Whatever you get just think long and hard, a fast car is great short term but can prove to be a money pit and a pain in the arse. As can buying second hand. Don't get yourself stuck with something in a tumbling market that you may hate in 6 months and lose a wad of cash on Thumbs Up

Cheers for the suggestions and advice, taking it all in!

Gonna be getting a nice lump of compo from my bike crash back in 2005 and always said I'd treat myself to a nice car. Not to say I've given up bikes... Twisted Evil

As for narrowing the margins I'm really open to any suggestions as long as it's got alot of go and is pretty rare to see on the roads!

I would never trust a car with all that after market stuff on, neither would i like to maintain it. Does look something special tho.

I think most people would just object to someone asking 15K, 12.5k or evern 10k for an M-reg car that isn't exactly very special.

If you're going to buy this car using compensation money from a claim then as someone else said you should think very carefully about whether you can actually afford to insure it, run it and maintain it for any length of time before finding it's just too expensive, which is when you have to sell it and end up losing thousands. Fast cars aren't going to get cheaper to own, especially post 2001 cars on high tax bands, tax increases cause the prices to go down the toilet further and are unpredicatable except you know you'll be screwed.

Amen to that!! A classic example is a local idot (or as we call him 'potential rapist') who bought one of those skylines for 16K. The minute he bought it it was probably worth 5k, smokey turbo, red hot gearbox all the usual. The thing is I bet it was pretty quick once and there may even have been a few people who thought they were pretty. Looking at them now I wouldnt swap my shitty Vectra for the one in that photo above without wanting some cash back in return Laughing

Tacking onto the back of Phoenix's point.

If you're buying a £10k fun car because you can afford to own and enjoy it, then do.

However, if it's a 10k windfall of some description to be spent on a car, think about running costs. I'd spend maybe 6k on the car, to set aside 1k for a decent service and tyres, and 3k to take it up to Scotland and really enjoy the thing.

Exactly! I mean think about it, what is gona make you feel better - when someone asks you what car you drive do you want the answer to be

"...a Mazda/Nissan"

or

"...a Maserati/Bently"

Should be a no-brainer really...

I think I'd go for an E46 M3 for all round value and performance.
Could just about get a bottom of the range (996) Porsche 911 for that money if you want to go a bit pop-flashy.
An early Monaro if you're not so worried by the corners.
A few Jaguar XKRs for that price; the XK definitely comes in well under that if you don't want the extra 100hp or so.
Thin you'd have to be lucky, but might just manage an older RS4 or RS6 estate; serious 'street sleeper'.
Could consider an S15 200sx, but what they offer for the price doesn't seem so great these days.

Or, could halve it and get a cheap bike engined kit car and an E36 M3 saloon for two stupidly quick cars; one for bike-style fun, the other for getting to the shop... that's the other side of the Nurburgring, if need be Smile.

I picked this up a couple of weeks ago for a chunk less than 10k, leather/alcantara, bose stereo, loaded with extras, low miles..

Handles superbly, goes reasonably well (now its been re-mapped) and returns 60mpg on a run.
