SORNd the bike because I can't be arsed to sort out new tyres and MOT before the end of the month to tax it. And anyway it's too cold and I'm a big girl, so it's staying in the garage.

So at some point, I'm going to need to get it to the garage and then onto the test centre to get the MOT done. What's the crack with this, seeing as i'll have no tax? Am I supposed to put it on a trailer? Or if I get stopped will they (police) accept I'm taking to get the MOT? Is this even a valid reason?

you can ride it to a pre-booked mot test appointment, but not to a garage just to have its tyres done, (unless the tyre garage is the mot place lol)

Get a mobile tyre fitter to come and sort your tyres at home then you only have to take it to the MOT centre which you can legally do if you have a booked appointment.

You *could* cheekily drop into the tyre place on your way to a pre-booked MOT, however that does go against the 'soley' provison in VERA 1994 Schedule 2 section 22

To do it by the book, you would need to take it to the MOT Centre. Fail the MOT and then take it for pre-booked works ie: replace the tyres and then take it back to the Testing Centre for a retest

Something along the same lines, what about if you have not tax and no MOT. You need an MOT to get tax, is there any provision for this?

I imagine it'd be a pretty petty copper to do you for it, but you know what some coppers are like. Laughing

Covered by VERA, as long as you are going to/from a prebooked MOT, if you then take the bike elsewhere including to the Post Office to get it taxed then technically you are committing an offence.

I have a printed copy of the
schedule
that I carry at these times in order to keep any roadside stops to a minimum of stress.

Whip the wheels off and take them in to get the new tyres fitted.

Then you can ride straight to the MOT place, get your MOT, ride straight home and walk to the post office. Though I think you could get away with nipping past the Postie on your way home unless the copper really doesn't like you.
