Have a few q's about a special edition nsr125r we have here in Ireland. It is restricted and can't be deristricted.Made that way becuase of insurance being a joke here in Ireland.A normal nsr125r costs a 18 yr male with 2 years NCB over 3,000 euro!!

What is acceleration and top speed like on a restricted nsr125r?

What mods would u recommend to get some more power?

What kinds difference would puttin on a race can have on the performance?
Thanks

You best bet is to get a race pipe but don't expect it to work any magic. As for add ons can,t really find much for it.
I had an irish NSR and it was never restricted (do think any are) but if you want to check use the Guide on NSR125.com

How have the made it so that it cannot be derestricted? I would be willing to bet that they havn't changed a thing, and it is restricted as per www.nsr125.com Smile

The race pipe will improve performance quite a bit, as one of the restrictors is in the exhaust, thus putting a different exhaust on it has removed it Smile

With it restricted, you can expect top speed of about 80mph, and 0-60 of about 10-11 seconds.

It is? I *thought* that they were under the 14.6bhp or whatever the learner limit is? Anyone else be able to agree/ disagree this?

It's probably your good old CDI restriction again...having said that *who* started this rumour about the bike not being derestrictable? Dealers? Mechanics?...we all know how reliable these sources are Laughing

No guys it actually is a special edition, they only made a few of them for Irelnad and they definitely aren't able to be deristricted the normal ways anyway. Its like a different bike the restriction is built into it in the ports and the carbs. Its like that cus the insurance companies then know that you be able to go at ludicrous speeds thus its in group 2 whereas the normal nsr125r even when its restricted is in group 7 because it has the capability to be derestricted and go 100mph.
I really want to get one of the group 2 nsrs but I feel that I may get bored of it quickly if it will only be able for 70-80.I can either get it for 5000 euro new or else a 2nd hand gilera runner 180(i know its a scooter and doesn't look half as cool but it would be able to embarass a fair few bikes with a top speed of 110mph!)Id also be saving 2 grand if i went for the gilera.Any advice?
cheers

Get a bike not a ped, and any bike is derestrictable ie: change carb/jets drill ports, remove washer ect. Its just more work on some than others but i dout they went to too much trouble to restrict it as it's only for ireland.

Alright mate

What part of Ireland are you from? I live in Dublin. Try the forum on cbr250.com Loads of Irish people knocking about there.

I personally wouldnt go for the restricted nsr125. I was talking to the lads in planet fun about it and they said that they could derestrict it but i dont know how true that is. And its a lot of money for a bike that you dont know if it can be derestricted. I dont know if there is any of them left now anyway, a guy in bikeworld said there was only one or two left in the country a few weeks ago.

Have you considered the nsr75? I will be getting one if i get a loan. They are just under €4000 brand new and they are in group two insurance aswell. If they are destricted they can hit 70mph fairly easily, ive even seen one going by me in the car on the motorway doing 80mph. And they are bulletproof. The only bad thing ive heard about them is that they are a bit light. Ive heard so many storys of people thrashing the bike constantly and never looking after it and still having no problems so it could be an option for you.

Hope that helps Very Happy

Bryn
