How much slack is there with you sitting on the bike?

How did you go about tightening it? Put it on the centre stand and take up all the slack with the rear wheel off the floor? Here's how it should be for a CB500 as an example - what is the bike?

Make sure you tighten it to the required freeplay on the chains tight spot too.

Hi

As above.Suspect you have set the tension at a fairly loose point. Sort it out before it destroys your sprocket carrier bearing or worse the output shaft bearing.

All the best

Keith

As Keith says loosen it off before you ride it or it will take your gearbox bearings out.

I'm ashamed to say i think thats what i did to my FZR 400 a bit too much or not finding the tight spot correctly leading to all sorts of problems an a 6th gear that wouldnt engage. Live an learn, something i will never fail to do again is double check my tight spot.

Just get the back end off the floor and spin the wheel. the tight bit will be obvious.

Its a spot on the chain where it gets tight Laughing . With the wheel lifted off the ground slightly, rotate the wheel and keep checkin the freeplay, as soon as it gets tight mark it by either cleaning the plate or so so you know where it is, keep rotating a few time still checkin so you are certain you've found the tightest spot on the chain.
