So, this Palestine, Israel topic at the moment. It's bothering me...
Maybe with the use of paint brush and a very simple explanation from some of you guys, ill understand it a bit better.

So a run down of what i know or rather dont... Confused
I assumed the side with all the military might are allies of ours and we (and the US) sell them weapons etc. On the other side they are trying to keep their freedom...and using what force they have?
Can someone separate all this for me, its not that i want to know all fine details but i hate not knowing about it.

My dad would say things like, 'bloody terrorists' etc at the TV...probably directed at Hammas as they are portrayed as rebel types. Is he right to say this? Are they the scum?
When i visit my sister who has a Muslim husband, they seem to support Hammas...they are VERY anti Bush, US government etc etc. They watch Arabic news on Sky and any time Hammas were doing something with force she seemed pleased. I have no idea why, im not overly fussed really...that was until today i received an email from one of our employees who was obviously from the middle east division. It was a slideshow email of dead people from Palestine, with messeges about 'praise our martyrs' yada yada yada...it wasn't the barbaqued children it was more annoyance i didnt know if this deserved sympathy. Always two sides to a story so what are they? Thumbs Up

Two groups of people. Both have an unshakeable belief that they were given that piece of land by God to the exception of all others.

There is no way to resolve this. They have been fighting over the same area of land since Moses came out of Egypt.

Nothing we can say or do will make either side change their mind.

Attempting to broker peace in the Middle East is a total waste of time. We can do nothing more than attempt some form of damage limitation because neither side is ever likely to capitulate.

The Jews from Europe invaded Palestine after WW2 and waged a war of terror against the former colonial power there (the British) culminating in terrorist attack on the King David Hotel in Jerusalem killing 91 people, most of whom were British Soldiers or locals serving with the British.
When the British withdrew from Palestine the Jews continued their war of terror against the legitimate owners of the land (The Palestinians) and drove them into exile into Jordan, Syria, the West Bank and Gaza. There are still refugee camps in these areas, Gaza itself is nothing more than a very large camp for displaced people. It is little wonder that Israel is despised in the region.

Agreed

You should also mention that Israel is funded by the US so that they have a sympathetic country in the oil rich region of the Middle East. I am sympathetic to the suffering of the Jews during the Second World War, but they have hardly been keeping the moral high ground for the past 60 years.

Wow, an answer on this topic of the most heated and regular debate, that is not only factual, but without bias.

I have a lot of respect for this comment. Thumbs Up

Can you think of any country better qualified than the US to advise on slaughtering, displacing, betraying and finally ghetto-ising incumbent natives?

Couple of things I reckon:

Because Hammas has some legitimacy you decide on how tenious this legitimacy is or not, they won an election which is more than can be said for Gordon Brown.

https://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2005/jan/29/israel

Though many governments of the world do not recognise them as a government "because they voted the wrong way" (which exposes the sham of democracy we want in the middle east).

And to Quote to Kill a Mockingbird

Quote:
I wanted you to see what real courage is, instead of getting the idea that courage is a man with a gun in his hand. It's when you know you're licked before you begin but you begin anyway and you see it through no matter what. You rarely win, but sometimes you do. ~Harper Lee, To Kill a Mockingbird, Chapter 11, spoken by the character Atticus

In that the Palestinian side know they cannot fight against tanks and gunships yet they still do,

Only thing I would add is; there have been Jews in Palestine for as long as there have been Arabs and neither can claim the moral high ground in this situation: there isn't any.

Thumbs Up

Blimey, haven't you seen the film 'Munich'? It explains it rather well!

The Arabs/Muslims think its biassed toward the Jews, and the Jews think its Biassed towards the Arabs. That means its a fairly good accounting of the overall feelings on both sides IMO. It may not be factually accurate, but unlike most hollywood films with an emotive war type theme I didn't actually want either side to win or lose. And from a Jewish film director like Senor Spielbergo, thats quite an achievement.

The only real lesson in the film is that escalation is wrong and war is wrong.

On a side note, one of my colleagues from work is in Lebanon working for a Hamas bankrolled company. He thoroughly checked his insurance before he left, I can tell you! Smile
