OK, now before I share the story of my early morning trip round Shropshire, I would just like to make clear that I DO like animals and would always try and avoid injuring one in/on any motor vehicle.........

Went out this morning with the camera to take some pics on the lanes of Shropshire......turns out there is a classic car meet at Weston Park, so the roads were busier that normal so I thought I would keep to the 'B' roads to avoid the procession of Triumph Heralds etc

Anyway, come round a fairly sharp right hander and am confronted with a large transit van stopped in the middle of the road (wheels either side of the white lines) and it's hazards flashing! Between me and the van there is is a bloke running around on the road in a sort of crouch position herding 3 or 4 rabbits off the road onto the verge......I come round the bend, brake hard..(felt my ABS kick in for the first time ever on clean tarmac) realised that there was still not space to stop without risk to me/zig-zagging muppet/bunnies so picked my exit route to the right side of the vehicle and swerved to go round the van.

...as I pass the van the muppet starts shouting something about "watch the rabbits" and as one suddenly heads towards my front wheel he follows it and nearly collides with the left side of my fairing......I carried on round the vehicle only to be confronted with his missus and another selection of rabbits....however, she starts shouting and tries to push me off the bike!........I straightened up and brought be bike to a halt whereafter a 5 minute 'debate' ensued during which time I specifically detailed exactly how far up their arses they could shove their bunnies............whilst I was moving on to enumerate the precise number of rabbits I would recommend they used there was a screech of brakes and a car narrowly missed going into the back of the van........two guys then got out of the car and joined in the "what you can do with these f***ing rabbits£" masterclass......looking around, due to the commotion and the shouting there were now no more rabbits in view I got back on the bike and rode off.

Now my question is.........was my reaction appropriate or should I have:

a) Parked up and helped round up the bunnies
b) Advised my fellow road users of the dangers of their parking position
c) Ignored the attempt to shove me off the bike and rode off
d) Got off the bike and removed them both from the gene pool using a pump action shotgun before carefully moving their vehicle to the side off the road to avoid further incident involving other road users

Very Happy Very Happy

D.

There are plenty of rabbits anyway. If they don't want to be squished they shouldn't hang out in the middle of the road.

I would have chosen...

E: Dropped the bike and called the police. Claimed serious damages to bike and person and have the woman charged with pushing you from the bike.

There are far too many bunnies in this country, you would have done the rabbit population a favour by taking some of them out. And the fact that someone else nearly crashed into them too shows that D would have been an appropriate course of action.

I like the sound of option E. Lets face it, the bunny lovers in this tale will have gone back to their weirdy beardy, pushbiking, rye grass tea drinking brethren telling them how they were verbally assaulted by a biker and a car driver whilst they were trying to save god's little creatures.

If you'd fallen off and called the police, the police would then have explained to the bunny lovers the dangers of parking a van in the middle of a road creating a potentially fatal obstacle.

I'm detecting some irony about the fact bunnies were at the root of this situation and it being easter sunday and all!

Although I agree with pinky:

F:

Hit the silly bint that tried to knock you off.

"Sorry officer, there was nothing I could do. She just ran into my path and I had no hope of stopping *tear rolls down face*"

Very Happy

G:

Pull out aforementioned pump action shot gun, kill both driver and woman, remove transit van from road, run after the rabbits and shoot as many as you can, put them and the bike in the transit along with the bodies, tip the bodies into a nearby river, go home and peel the rabbits, go and sell them at a local market/to a local butcher.

Oh and sell the transit without its reg plates and with the VIN chiseled off as 'Runner without Log Book' on GumTree.

I hope your judgement improves on the next bend.

Thanks for some excellent options there! The only drawback on options E and F is that they involve damaging the bike in some way....however, Computid's option G is very neat, thorough and sounds like it is based on experience! Very Happy

Went back round that way on Sunday and not a rabbit to be seen! I am thinking that the two guys I in the Mondeo that nearly went in the back of them possibly went down the 'option G' route!

Finally, as Rogerborg pointed out, my judgement has improved as the result of this experience....I am now taking every right hander on the basis that there is a white van in the middle of the road about 20yrds off the apex and assuming I will exit on the right side of the raod aiming for the pavement........certainly made life more exciting! Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

wtf!
So it's alright to obstruct the highway and attempt to injure a rider in the pursuit of bunny herding!?

...apparently yes! Goodwill to all god's creatures seemed to only extend to the small furry kind........ironically, from whaT I saw, none of the bunnies were ever in danger...the only people in any sort of peril were the two muppets with the van and me!......thanks to my Bunny Liberation Front (BLF) assailant! Smile Smile Smile

"Natural selection is the process by which biologic traits become more or less common in a population due to consistent effects upon the survival or reproduction of their bearers. It is a key mechanism of evolution"...

....Had there not been a van parked in the way, we could be one step closer to eradicating "bunny herding" from the human gene pool....
