Ok, I'm trying to come up with a way of attaching a small boat, 190cm long, about 45cm wide, to my bike with a bit of kit, which can be packed into the boat I reckon Smile

Has anyone had an experience with bike trailer, as I've had a bit of a google, but come up with nothing in the UK Sad How does the towbar attach to the bike? How much will it affect the bikes handling?

Unless anyone can think of a safe way of attaching it to the pillion seat.... Twisted Evil

Errrrrmm. Probably cheaper and easier to just do your car licence and get a cheap car Very Happy (in relation to the trailer)

You could have a look at things people have for attaching surf boards, but I doubt they make em for the zx6 and it would be pretty dodgy.

Does a 'scooter with trailer' experience count! Smile

If so...anything more than 30mph you get a rear wheel wobbles going on! Smile

Hmmm, and the trailor bounces around like a hyperactive child with a pogo stick if there isn't enough weight in it.

You could attempt to fasion one and attach it to the swinging arm.... How big is this boat? Are we talking canoe sized Wink I don't think a surf board attachment would work. They only really work on scooters - as there isn't anywhere to put your legs otherwise. Also the board/boat is positioned horizontally along the bike making manouverability difficult and optimising damage to the said delicate boards. (fine in Fiji and other exotic places where cars and buses don't exisit, but England?? Not so sure!)

I have towed a few trailers of all sizes and all with fairly large cars, the way they affect the handling of a car would suggest that a bike is not practical. The critical thing with any towing arrangement is the kerb weight of the tow vehicle compared to the laden weight of the trailer.

I think that the only options are a car or a gold wing.

Light trailers do not have brakes and even with a car it has a dramatic effect on stopping, the effect on a bike does not bear thinking about. Braked trailers tend to larger and could not be towed but if you could find a light trailer with brakes thay are still a problem. The brakes work by reaction with the tow vehicle (the tow hitch pulls the brake on under compression as the tow vehicle slows) these are not always smooth and can come on and off with a bang. A large car can absorb this but a bike would be badly affected.

Get a cheap car and a decent trailer and take the bike with you, best of both worlds.

It'd be about £2k+ for steven. already looked into it not even worth me listing what figures it came out with. Things that add to the insurance are: the size of vehicle (can do more damage) can carry more stuff that can be claimed for in theiving, diesels are more expensive to insure for some reason. For me on my own it was ridiculous

Confused @ transit van

Learning to drive is going to cost too much too soon I think Sad

But after learning, it would have to be a van Smile

I can't see it being £2000 to be insured on one. Does the TPFT cover on those normally cover the contents, ie bikes?

Someone give me a job, which pays enough and I'll get one Razz

not allways!! my insurance on my 306 d turbo is cheaper than on my old citroen ax 1.1 and its worth 3times as much, but for your first year insurance on anything will be a piss take!

oh and "pass plus" is a good idea to bring insurance down!
think you have 9 "lessons" when youve passed ure test and you get (with most insurance companys) 1 years noclaims!!
