Right here's the thing, im off to uni in September and having just bought a bike to get me to and from there (A yammy xj600s) i want to make sure it's nice and safe when i leave it outside my place on campus.

So already it's safish because well... it's on campus with decent security although the public can come on whenever they please.

There are bike racks which will make a very nice place to secure the bike to over night.

So i'm thinking i'll buy a decent quality bike cover to simply disguise the bike to passers by, i have an oxford omega disc lock and i plan to datatag the bike with a kit from ebay.

In the form of locks, maybe also immobilisers and or alarms, what should i be looking at?

my budget would be unlimited as far as a good quality chain and lock goes, but i dont really want an immobiliser or in-bike alarm (I was half considering a xena disc lock though!)

Cheers.

Don't mess about and get either an Almax or Pragmasis chain and a Squire SS65CS padlock.

Laser Sharks.

Failing that get a good solid ground anchor. Couple it with an Almax chain and you won't get much better. Also ask the campus people to put up CCTV signs on premises, if they don't already have them, as a deterent.
Bulldog MC200 ground anchor is good in regards to reducing insurance, though they are fucking darned pricey.

Edit: You will probably not get permission to install the ground anchor on University property, but it is worth asking.

Get a high voltage electric fence, that will frazzle anything that touches it, plus a big toothy angry dog (who you've obviously trained NOT to touch the fence)...sorted. Thumbs Up

Just read this, excellent read, i just need a way to decrease the chances of making it off with a bike!

https://www.bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=147261

A lock to stop the bike being moved, an alarm to alert me/scare the thief/alert others a tracking system of some kind so if its stolen it can be traced, a tagging system so if its broken it might be traced and perhaps a 'quick release' battery so it cant be hot wired...

If i can add all that my peace of mind will be great!

For £35 cost and 30mins of my own time it brings my insurance down by just as much if not a little more so its worth it IMO.
