Recentally i have been sticking to speed limits almost religiously due to so many convictions (6!!) and not wanting any more.

It would be appropiate that the day i need to go 75 in a 60 (on the A130 towards Chelmsford if anyone knows/cares which is wide enough to get 4 cars side by side even though it is a single carrige way) a police bike was standing at the other end of the stretch with a speed gun Rolling Eyes

So now i have 7 (SEVEN!) bloody convictions and probably should stick to walking for a few years!

Another annoying this is that my car doesnt like rain and refuses to go over 60 in it, like it was doing yesterday untill that stretch of road Rolling Eyes Laughing

So, how long do speeding convictions and bans take to clear your licence? Think i got my first conviction for speeding in March 2006 or there abouts.

They are valid for 3 years (i.e. count towards the totting up), but stay on your licence for 4 years. Insurance companies do what they like, and usually ask for the last 5 years.

so would i be right in thinking the points for any type of motoring conviction (even drink driving), would only count towards totting up for three years?

Correct. Any totting up of 12 points in 3 years would equal a ban

If you've had 7 convictions (@3 points) in less than 3 years how have you not been banned?

Not having a go, just think i'm missing something.

Because only 2 of the convictions have points against them.

2 others were bans and the rest were convictions at the same time as the bans.

I think he means convictions that resulted in the bans, not further convictions whilst banned.

On 2 occasions i got convicted for mulitple convictions.

Once being speeding and driving without due care.

The other being speeding whilst driving outside of ocordance of licence and no insurance (wasnt restricted).

Top that up with 2 SP30s and thats 6 points in total.

Don't forget that insurance companies ask for in the last five years. Although I don't know how likely it is that they'll check if the points aren't on your license anymore.

My 3 points come off in November this year and I'll have a think about whether I tell the insurance company about them or not. Might pretend to forget them and see what difference it makes before coming clean. Not worth the risk of a non-payout if the premium is all of ten quid difference.

Cheers

Grim
