Kickstart only? ~ power?

Hi

I remember reading a post on here some time ago about bikes with kickstart only and no battery, but somebody had a link to some sort of device that allowed you to charge things off the bike which modded the power system some how anybody know what I'm on about and can provide a link perhaps?..

Common bodge for running bikes on the cheap used to be to replace the battery with a suitable resistor.

However I presume you mean a bike built without a proper charging circuit. In which case I suspect it might be using a/c for the electrics and you would need to rig up a rectifier to provide power to charge other things.

My GasGas has no battery or ignition switch. It just has a kick starter and a killswitch.

But then again, it only runs the weakest headlamp in chrisendom, a brake light that couldn't illuminate a gnat, and four of the piddliest tiddliest indicators ever to be fitted to a motorvehicle.

The speedo is also electronic, but its broken so the Sigma sport I put on there is battery powered.

a gasgas for the road? is it a proper trailie one with mods or do they do road bikes too? got any pics?

most modern bikes won't run without a battery even if it has a kickstart (not including trials/scrambler type bikes) as they have an alternator that requires stored electricity (battery) to energise the fields...

very few have "permanent" magnets unlike my old Bonnie which i can take the battery out of and bin should i want to ...

you could possibly start some of them with a jump start, then once running be able to disconnect the jumper as long as the idle is raised, but i've no idea if that would create any other problems

For the TZRs there's a thing called a Battery Killer that replaces the battery to save weight in racing.

Itchy i think your after a capacitor that's built for a bike, i haven't got time to find the thread or the link at the moment but tomorrow I will post it up
