Do I need new brake shoes?

My back brake's been sticking so I took off the drum to clean the crap out. I thought I'd chect the shoes at the same time, which is all very well except that I don't know what new ones look like and hence how worn these are. Looking at the pictures on wemoto there doesn't seem to be masses of difference... Opinions appreciated

Looks like you have plenty of wear left in those. Usually there is a wear specification in any manual that you might be able to refer to. Don't take it as gospel but I usually wait until I'm down to 1-2mm.

Cheers, confirmed what I thought. I know the pics were a bit crap, I'm not much of a photographer, and using a camera phone. It's all back together now and hopefully will actually get through the MOT this time.

Yeah, they look fine. When it came time to replace the brake shoes on my Honda 90 there wasn't any of the friction material left on them at all!

They are fine.
I managed to improve my KE100 front drum by getting a dremel with a cutting wheel and grinding widely spaced diagonal cuts across the pad material. I then took a grinding wheel and made stripes inside the drum so that when the shoes were inside the drum the stripes were at ninety degrees to the cuts.

This, and a change of cable made it as good as a disc brake.
