Oh dear.

My Ma swapped her SIM card over. Thinking the current texts were stored on the SIM card, she thought this was ok - just put the old SIM card back in to retrieve the old messages.

Turns out, when she put the old card back in, the texts are nowhere to be seen. I assume they were stored on the handset's memory and were automatically wiped by the phone?

Anyone know any recovery techniques?

Cheers in advance!

What model phone is it and what network?

Should not have been automatically wiped but depends what phone it is.

It's a Motorola v400f like this

Was on Orange PAYG, new sim is for an O2 'simplicity' sim-only plan.

I presume (as most orange handsets are locked) that she had to goto some pikey market/shop in town to get her phone unlocked? maybe they had to wipe it as part of the unlocking stuff *-)...

Nope, she just asked Vodafone after her contract was up and they gave her unlock codes. A year ago she switched to Orange, now to O2, which is when the texts mysteriously disappeared.

Perhaps in modern phones, texts are stored on the handset memory instead of the SIM? I can't explain why they vanished.

If they're gone and need recovering, you will not be able to do it yourself.

For recovered data to be accepted as evidence in court, you're going to need a forensic examiner's report.

Hi

I had a load of texts disappear on one handset after ages. Not all the texts, just the old ones. Wasn't that bothered by came to the conclusion the handset dumped ones that were over a certain age (~ a year), but that was a guess.

All the best

Keith

The sim on all the phones I've ever owned store about 10 text messages(If you're lucky) and your phonebook, that's it.

The rest is stored on the handset itsself.
