I really didn't have enough motorcycles, so I picked up another one. Laughing

Fellow owed me just over 300 and offered this as payment in full.............. I TOOK IT!!!! Laughing

Just over 42k on the clock. Fuel system was gunked to no end. Four hours into the cleaning, she's a runner! Rode it about 10 miles just to check it out and I think I'm gonna keep this one. Gotta do a full tune on it and see what all there is to check out more closely as it's only had oil changes and a clutch job since new. Since my rotary knowledge stops with the Mazda, I've got some studying to do (gotta find a manual too). Only bad places on it are the dents in the tank (as in pic, and another smaller one on other side), a scrape on one pipe and fogged clocks.

Very Happy Here's the conversation........... best I can recall.

Him: "I can't cover ya this week"

Me: "No problem, pay what ya can and cover it next week"

Him: "I was hoping you might be interested in a trade"

Me: "Always. What ya trading?"

Him: "My old Suzuki RE5"

Me: "Is it all there"

Him: "It's all there, but it's.... (sorta cut him off a tad)"

Me: "Done"

Him: "You don't want to check it out first?"

Me: "I wanna see it and make sure it's all there, then I want to haul it to the shop"

Him: "It's been sitting for four years"

Me: "So show me it's all there"

Laughing Headed out. Got to his place a few minutes before he did, and waited on him. He showed up and opened the garage and started digging his way to the right back corner. Thirty minutes later, out rolls a complete 76 RE5.

Papers are in order. He's the original owner. I own it now. The world is good!

Been wanting one since I talked a dealer into letting me test ride one new in 75. Really expected major surgery just to get it going, but she's roaring just fine. Now to put some time on it and see what all starts leaking Confused

These things cool the cases with coolant, and cool the rotor with oil (oil cooler below radiator), have CRAZY fuel systems, points triggered CDI and a host of other things to go wrong, but it runs. lol

Cool, a rotary bike!!

Do they suffer from the same things as RX7's? Rotor tips chipping and apex seals going?

Not nearly as bad as the Mazdas, thanks to deep slotted "wipers", but given this one's neglect, I think I might be well advised to tear it down and replace them just the same. Easy enough, now for the scary part............ How much are they gonna run me!
