Hi all,

Just wondering what you people use for protecting your bikes from corrosion etc during the winter months, no smart arse comments like I leave it garaged until summer please Laughing

Couple of guys at work suggested ACF50 and FS365, anyone had any experience with either of these products?

Thanks
Nick

Both of those are great, WD40 also works.

I use Wurth Corrosion Inhibitor, as recommended by my local dealer

https://www.churchstreetmotorcycles.co.uk/content/WURTH.JPG

It's water based and disc safe, just go crazy with it over the bike ! Laughing

I have ACF-50 too, but never really get to grips with applying it, cloth or spray Embarassed

As Big_ham said. Both are great. Though FS365 is water based.. so you might need to re-apply after going out for a ride in the moderate-heavy rain.
WD40 or GT85 also work very well.

Thanks people Thumbs Up

Bloke at work uses the FS365 but said he has to re-apply it every couple of weeks.

I wanted to use something that I could apply once and leave for winter to save taking the fairings off the bike all the time to get all the stuff behind there, which was when he suggested the ACF50 stuff.

Could I use the ACF50 to do all the stuff behind the fairings and then use the FS365 for stuff that can be easily got at?

couple of weeks? , you should use it more often than that , at least if it rains, the thing is FS365 forms a layer of neutralised crud on the surface of your bike, go touch my NTV and your fingers will be covered in layers and layers of crud.

FS365 is water based, but it is still oily! I certainly would not recommend letting it anywhere near tyres, discs or pads!

Think I might go for a combination of the 2 then, ACF50 for the intial coating for everything hidden behind the fairings and the FS365 for the other exposed stuff that I can get at easily Thumbs Up

Thanks people Thumbs Up

FWIW I have used the ACF 50 and do not rate it at all, every bit of shit sticks to it and if you go wild with it your bike smells as if its on fire!

I bumped into a bloke at a rally who has a bare steel tank, he uses the halfords version of WD40 and he says its the best he's found!

Thought I'd double check as it sounded a bit odd.

One I refer to does specify on the label, disc safe.

Either they are lying to you in the email or on their product, or they think you mean another corrosion inhibitor they supply.

I'm not too sure why they'd lie to me in my email so I don't buy the product but hey Razz

I'd still throw a rag over the discs if I were you.

Just don't put it on your disks.

Disks don't rust anyway.(Well the do, but the rust burns off the second you apply the brakes).

I appreciate that, but there will probably be a lot less knowledgeable people reading this thread and getting themselves in a muddle.

ACF50 and FS365, Thumbs Up

We sell out quite quick on these products and get good feedback on both.

This is what lead me to this site! I've been reading the manual for my scooter and it says to use a corrosion prevention spray but doesn't really say what it is or exactly where to apply or not. I don't have a clue Sad

Any help will be useful regarding care and maintenance.

I've now put grease on my spokes to stop the rust, working a treat so far. Used to notice it within a week, been a few weeks now and they're great. Thumbs Up

As suggested, I would go for the ACF-50. Put a coat on whatever you want to protect (avoiding brakes and tyres) and it will keep your scooter rust-free.

ACF-50 everytime. Thumbs Up
But you need to spend time and put with the idiosyncracies.

1) It does not spray very well ... best method is to randomly squirt it over the bike and then use a rag to spread it around ... you will soon find that the rag gets so soaked in acf50 that you dont need to spray any more and can simply cover the bike using the rag.
2) Bike needs to be super clean before hand.
3) It smells lovely Smile
4) Its expensive ... but you only need to apply it 3 times a year or so.
5) It doesnt wash off easily ... normal hand wash will still leave a protective coat (as it bonds with the metal surface or something) ... but of course a jetwash will strip it off.
6) Its expensive.

Its used to protect the alloys on aircraft frames etc.

I swear by it ... and its kept my 03 R6 in mint condition.
Any bike that has been ridden through 4 winters ... rain, sleet, salt etc ... and still looks like this has to be evidence of how good the stuff is.
